Well, since today was too freaking hot to do much of anything (high of 102F), and tomorrow looks to be worse (predicting 104+), I decided to get caught up on some modeling.

I fixed/built all my Infinity minis (damnable fiddly bits on some of those):  The PanOceania, Yu Jing, and Haqqislam starter boxes, as well as drones for PanO and Haqq.  They are all very nice models, and may end up pulling double duty as Cyberpunk RP minis.  The Drones are nearly as tall as the infantry.  The pictures show them on 40mm bases, to give y'all an idea of how big they are.

I also got 2 devilfish assembled for my Tau ESWAT.  I just need to fill and sand the seams before I paint them gloss blue (if I've still got any filler).  One question:  The back door will be white, should the side doors be white as well?

I plan on getting my Landmates built in the next couple days, and hopefully primed.  I just need to get the guns converted (some will be sticking the plastic GW plasma rifle onto the metal LM gun, some will also have an 'underbarrel' Fusion Blaster added) and build the new heads (multiple different heads, as each one is custom in the Manga.  It also helps to identify which one is which).  I also need to convert (well, mostly just pose) my other FW Broadside, so it's in the 'hiding under the overpass waiting for a shot at the Titan' pose, without interfering with the ammo feeds on the back of the suit.  I also need to figure out how I'm going to comvert my 'Briareos' Broadside from the PanOceania Armored CAV suit.  The problem is that the suit is kinda skinny, and the weapon is a bit smaller than I really want.  I think I'm going to just add some bulk to the shoulders, a backpack 'flight' unit (looks like a big Tau antenna, anyway), and build the gun from scratch.  I'll prime/paint the running Broadside at the same time I paint all the others.

I'm also going to try to paint 24 of the Fire Warriors I've converted up for the ESWAT sometime this weekend, as well as build 4-6 Marker Drones in 40k scale (the only way to get a Marker Drone is on the new Stealth Suit sprue, and I don't need any more stealth suits.  I have 6+12 of the old, and 3 of the new.)  The Marker Drones will be easy, grab a spare Crisis suit Target Lock, a gun drone, and some spare drone antennas.  put the Target lock on one side of the bottom of the gun drone (where a pulse carbine would go), trim the other pulse carbine down to just the pulse barrels and the attaching point, and then stick the spare antenna to the underside of the antenna already on the gun drone.  Problem solved.  Now I just need some spare missile pods to make into Devilfish SMS mounts.

Sorry, guys, got lots of cameras here, but they're all film.  No digital cameras to be found.   :(

Got two headless Shas'ui (w/Markerlights) built out of Pathfinders (just need to find my bare Tau heads to finish them), and got 4 Marker Drones built.  I'll be able to at least field 6 markerlights for the July 29 Tournament.  Ended up tweaking the design a bit, I stacked the antennas on top of each other, base-to-base instead of trying to duplicate the GW version.  I'm happy with the way they turned out.  Now for a paint scheme...  Infantry are two shades of blue, while the Suits are mostly white, with blue trim.  White Drones with blue trim, like the suits?

Couldn't find any filler, so the Devilfish have been temporarily back-burnered (don't really need them for the tourney anyway)

I need to find my razor saw to do some of the converting of the Guns.  I'm trying to build my 'missile pods' out of all the spare burst cannons I have, but I need to cut the breech area in half just behind the ejection port so I can stick two burst cannon together back-to-back.

I'm at a loss for the battlesuit heads right now, so I guess I'll have to chase down my Appleseed manga again.  I need to do that anyway, because I need to see 'Briareos' in his suit to modify the Armored CAV.

On to the painting, I think.

Yeah, I'm still working on them, too.

Went to paint my guys and discovered that whoever packed my brushes didn't put them in the same box as the paints.  That's what I get for having 'free' (meal+drink) help packing, I guess.

Put heads on the two Shas'ui, and built two more Marker Drones.

Discovered that the chest-plate sticks out too far on the Landmates, so it's time for the big file... a 10" mill Cad, to reshape the chests.  I don't want to make that much metal dust!

Worked a bit on the Devilfish, sanding all the seams I could, and reshaped the sensor on the turret to allow for a greater arc of fire.  Still need some filler, and can't afford to get any right now.  Need to find 4 more battlesuit Target Locks, to use on the (scratchbuilt) Smart Missile System drone turrets.

Still need to work with the 2nd FW Broadside, too.

All in all, finally getting the Sa'cea Sept ESWAT force ready to deploy for a few battles.  Turns out I still need 3 more CLAWS suits (my 'Landmates'), as my 2000 point list has 13 Crisis, 3 Broadsides, 16 Shield Drones, 22 Fire Warriors, and 4 Marker Drones.  I have enough suits for my 1500 and 1850 lists, though.

Second Broadside is done, except for paint&base.

Whatever pewter alloy that JC Miniatures uses in the CLAWS suits is disgustingly hard.  It took almost 2 hours to reshape the chestplate on one suit.  I'm going to have to borrow my Dad's Dremel.  :yuck:

About ready to prime the Shas'ui, 6 Marker Drones, 16 shield drones, and the Broadsides for the ESWAT, as well as the 13 Pathfinders and 6 Railfinders.  I still need to rebuild Deunan's H-GUGES (it started life as the Yu Jing TAG suit), Briareos (PanOceania Armored CAV suit), and finish the gun conversions.  I got the 'Missile Pods' finished, though.  Deunan is just a weapon swap to a plasma rifle, but the way the suit's right arm is cast makes that pretty challenging.  Briareos, in addition to building up his shoulders, needs a weapon swap (more Dremel work) and two Marine (better yet, Catachan) arms added to his lower torso.  The lower arms will hold the plasma rifle, while the upper arms will hold a scratchbuilt Railgun.

If it wasn't so stinking HOT (Saturday's high was 107, today was 104), I might be able to get more done.

I would like some magnets so that I can swap weapons between the plasma/melta and plain plasma guns (the missile pods are mounted behind the shoulders), as well as swap the missile pods from under the flight units.  Appleseed flight units, if you've never seen them, are some kind of funky antigrav system that looks kinda like a double-ended version of the big Tau vehicle antenna.  I'm going to give one to all my suits, even the Broadsides, and see how many people catch the reference.

Also found two Hammerhead SMS units (enough to equip one vehicle), and have enough parts to make another Smart Missile System.

I don't think I'll be able to get everything I want done before the 29th, especially since I spend most of the day searching for employment still (interview /= job offer, after all!).

I agree with your assessment of pewter. It is certainly harder to work with than lead.

Yeah, I was getting a lot done over the weekend, but now I've got interviews left, right and sideways (at least one a day from this Friday on for the forseeable future), all from putting my name into the State classified job list (not classified as in security, classified as in GS-type jobs.)  It's too bad the business resume's don't seem to be getting any attention, though.

I commented about the JC pewter because it's very hard.  It's much harder than GW's pewter mix, which is much harder than Rackham's pewter (frankly, Rackham's pewter is a little too soft, IMO)

Got to go find my other dress shirts and ties (Don't have the extra $$ to buy another one or two) in the storage unit, and I'm going to look for my paintbrushes while I'm rooting through there anyway.  It'd be nice to have the Tau ESWAT done before the Eldar Codex comes out.  Then I can sit tight until my Dark Angels come out next spring (probably April).

Hopefully I'll be able to save up and get a bunch more FW Tau (like an Epic army or two) by the time the DAs come out in 40k.  It's not too bad buying the infantry for an Epic Chapter:  about $500 bucks.  The expense happens when you start adding transport.  I've also got a lot of 40k Space Marines sitting around, that will eventually get turned into the 5th (Battle) Company of the Dark Angels (I'm over halfway there right now, but I can't seem to keep a consistent color.  Time to strip them and start from scratch, I think.)
