I saw this photo online. It was in a photo slide show about the middle east issues. I was thinking it looked very Orkie myself.

So anyone know what is it?

Anyone?

It's a "Mifletset" which is a conversion of the Nagmachon urban combat vehicle the Israelis based off surplus Centurion tank hulls.

Basically the Israelis found standard APC's armour far too light for urban combat standards and converted tank hulls as either infantry carriers or engineering vehicles.

The panels bolted onto the hull are explosive reactive armour and the built up fighting compartment has armoured vision blocks and firing aperatures for rifles or machine guns.

Butt ugly but a lot more effective versus RPGs and mines than something like an M113 would be...

Not only find a solution to a need, but recycle old tanks thus extend the investment's value to the IDF. Wish other countries (Cough *USA* Cough) would think like this. Use the tax dollars better....   :;):

Hi Dafrca,

Other countries have...

The USSR has recycled many of it's own T-55 hulls as "Achzarit" copies...

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Some of the older hardware does work its way down to Reserve and Guard units.

Yes, but not like what the IDF has done in their History.

The US has a habit of dumping and rebuying more then reusing. But I did not intend on this to turn into a debate on the Military procurement process.  :;):

Either way, this is a cool APC that I had never heard of until just now.  :D

Yes, I remember seeing that on the news too !  An interesting concept ... And good ID and description, "H" ! Many old US AFVs are sold to other countries or end up targets on ranges.  Most US NG and RES units get frontline stuff now since the "downsizing" in the '90s ... NG & RES are in the frontlines again !
