As a collector of micro armour myself i have many forces at one model represents a platoon so a regular german tank battalion would have: 1 x HQ, 3 or 4 x companies each of 3 vehicle models for a total of 1 command stand and 9 to 12 fighting stands. In fact my mid war panzer regiment of three battalions at platoon scale is posted on page one of my thread.
It is possible to field a division with this type of organisation but it is still a lot of models and would take some time to play with. Recently i have started reorganising my collection towards being able to use multiple divisions per side (no actual games yet) with an organisation of 1 stand equals a company which will still give you around 80 to 100 playing pieces per division but it should be easier to have more than one division on a side.
The point i'm trying to get across here is that it really does not matter what you designate each individual model to be, one tank, one platoon, or one company as the organisation will still be similar.
My german platoon scale tank battalion consists of 1 x Battalion HQ and 9 x tanks (Platoons), alternatively i can use the same models to represent a tank regiment which would be 1 x Regimental HQ and 9 x tanks (Companys). Note here the company or battalion HQ's dependent on which level you choose are not represented so you have a straight forward tidy little formation easily playable within the EA rules system.
Even if you want to collect at one one scale you can still play with different level organisations by just leaving those models not required in the box.
Don't know if this helps but hey there you go.
