OK guys. Thanks to your help, I am getting there. My current state is:

Carthaginians - Libyan Line Infantry Spearmen (Baccus Carthaginian African Spearmen; ACA2)

Later Hoplite Greeks - Typical City State Hoplites (Baccus Ancient Greek Hoplites; AG1)

Macedonian Ptolemaic Successors - Phalangites (Baccus Ancient Macedonian Phalangites Charging; AMA2)

Just two questions...

1. If anyone sees any problems or historical inaccuracies with this selection, please let me know (I like things to be as accurate as I possibly can).

2. Can someone confirm that the Ptolemaic Successors had conflicts (at some point in their respective histories) with the Ancient Greeks and/or Carthaginians?

Thanks again, guys.

CS,

As far as mini selection I think you are good.

As for conflicts that one gets a little hard.

The sucessor states all fought with each other and in Greece.  But to say the the Ptolemaic dynasty in Egtpy fought an army of ancient greece is not entirely coorect.

The Greek armies became Alexander's army, which became the armies of the Sucessor states.

I know you mention you didn't like wiki but it is good for a general understanding of events

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wars_of_the_Diadochi

Now Carthage and Ptolemaic Egtpy were comtemporaries and were close.  But I am not aware of any conflicts with each other.  I'm looking into it.

Ok so far no direct conflict with Egypt and Carthage.

They were always busy fighting other powers.

The successor Kingdoms were made up of a variety of troops from everywhere, so clear divisions between nationalities start to become confused. Greeks were everywhere causing trouble... :;):  IIRC Hellenistic Greek Kingdoms were also 'independent' for short periods of time, eg the Achaian League.

Get book 2 of army lists for DBM and you will see detailed breakdowns of nationalities and numbers of troops in the various successor kingdoms at different points in time.

CyberShadow, i think you should read about the history of the greek colony of Cyrene http://www.fanaticus.org/DBA/armies/I56.html , as it was some kind of crossroad between Egypt, Carthage and Syracuse.
Also, there was a plan devised by Alexander to conquer Carthage (i think he thought about conquering it after his planned arabian campaign, or maybe he told his egiptian governor to do it, i don?t remember). Aside from that, i don?t think the independent greek city-states had any problem with Egypt, as Ptolomey was known to be the only succesor of Alexander who didn?t think about "unifying the empire again" (maybe that?s why his family was in power for so much time...)
Another link you should take a look is this:
http://www.fanaticus.org/DBA/armies/II09.html
Just for some random thoughts :)

Thanks for all of the advice. It is a shame about the Ptolemaics. I really like the force, but none of their traditional opponents grab me in the same way, and I dont like to build a force with no-one to fight.

Just a quick questions, were the Baccus African Spearmen recommended for the Libyan Infantry because of the picture (round shields)? Because, it looks to me that the picture is incorrect and the picture of the African Spearmen is actually the one for the pack above it, with oval shields. In this case, I should probably get Citizen Infantry (which is what the picture actually looks like it should be).

Thanks.

I have just heard from Peter that the pictures are correct, so I will pick up some African Spearmen. The Ptolemaics will have to wait until I am inspired by one of their historical opponents.  :(

How could i not see this things before????? Anyway, the shield issue is no problem, as it seems to be no historical evidence over the type of shields (although most possibly they would be oval, but as i told you no one could tell you that they were not round :) )
