They do that a couple of times a year. I'd posted this link some other time, but repeating it doesn't hurt: Rinella coastal battery. It IS a coastal gun, designed to counter Italian battleship designs late in the 1800s. It's a hundred tonner, and it arrived here in 1882. It had the distinction of being the first operational fully mechanized coastal gun anywhere - the loading of the gun was by means of a hydraulic system, which also gave it an early pop-up attack! In action, the gun is raised above the parapet to fire, without exposing its crew. Ingenious! Almost as good as Tesla coils and twice as spectacular. Incidentally, no shell is fired when its exhibited - I dare say it could still do a good deal of harm to anyone at the receiving end... ![]() |
