I'm creating this thread in looking to see if anyone has seen or has created a version of epic using the EA rules for Cold war gone hot. My dad loves the rule set but struggles with the 40k universe so we have started creating stat lines for basic USSR and US units. Any help is appreciated!

captPiett (a local) has. There's probably a battle report or two posted by him or me on here.

My painting thread has some rules discussions. It doesn't start until over halfway through:

https://www.tacticalwargames.net/taccmd ... 7&start=60

Still working on the rules in fits and starts. They follow a general alternating activation framework, but with more randomness thrown in. I've added an extra class of vehicle between LV and AV: the Light Armored Vehicle and ATGW. Working on smoke rules. Infantry is weaker but harder to hit. Weapons stats are more granular as a consequence.

However, if you come up with basic stats for some key vehicles, I think E:A is totally portable to Cold War as is.

My son (Ben Gross) and I tried to do just this and found that the ranges did not work out. It the typical rifle range of 500 mm is equivalent to 15 cm, then typical tank engagement and shooting ranges ended up across the board and there was little room for maneuver or subtlety. We have since switched over to WW II and the tanks engagement ranges make much more sense. I am posting a battle report in the Historical board on this forum.

EAs scale is logarithmic.

15cm - 250m
30cm - 500m
45cm - 1km
60cm - 2km
75cm - 4km (horizon)
90cm - 8km
120cm - 32km

Dave: I've always felt that was the only interpretation of EA ranges that really made sense, but was it ever actually stated by the designers or is that just your interpretation? Without wanting to start an argument over mini scale, I've also though that the original minis followed something like a logarithmic scale with vehicles intentionally undersized relative to infantry and war engines intentionally undersized relative to vehicles.

Just spotted this topic and wanted to add that I would also be very interested in EA Cold War. I wonder if anyone has already spent any time putting something together on this ?

It was stated by Jervis on the old Epic boards, yes. I don't know if those were the exact numbers, but they're close. You'd have to dig around in archive.org to find it.

I’m sure it’s been printed on paper a few times too, couldn’t say where, the designer’s notes in the rule book or the Epic 40K Magazines when they did the community beta testing?
