ok I had enough.  I been lurking and lurking and lurking.  Reading forums, reading threads, looking up pictures, etc, etc. etc. None of it has help decide the issue.

I just can't decide!!!!  AAGHHHH!!! (sound of Louie banging head on wall)

I have a mini delima

I've been drooling over a possible LOTR project but I can't decide whether or not to do it in 10mm or 28mm

Super cool figures or mass

Help a poor lost soul

Ok, sorry CC, you really didn't deserve that.  :blush:

If what grips you are the characters, and encounters with Shelob etc, go for 28mm.
If you go for battles, and like the 'epic' aspect of the book, then definitely go for 10mm. More spectacular and easier to store when you have a vast horde. If you're the CC I know, and go by this advice, I already know which you'll choose.  :D

Yes, I think a little more detail is required to make an informed answer, but generally as 'V' "detailed or lots"  :laugh:

I guess that this depends what you are trying to do - look at thepath of the characters, or just the spectacle of the battles. If it were me, I would ask myself two questions -

1. Which parts of the movies/books did you like (the character driven moments, or the glorious charges and sieges), and would like to recreate?

2. Is there an area of your gaming that has a void? For example, I like the massed battle scenes, but I have games that can do that for me and perhaps if I were doing it I would want more character progression as it is a bit different from what I already have.

So...

if (character progression) then
  scale = 28mm
elseif (massed battles) than
  scale = 10mm

:p

Of course, you could just pick up Battle for Five Armies and the LotR 'one rule book' at the same time! (I am so tempted by the 'one rule book' too!)

Vanvlak,

Why am I not suprised by your answer. ?And ultimately that may be the way to go. ?

I love the mass battles.  I want to fight battles, but I'm worried I won't like painting in 10mm. ?I know I paint in 6mm, but alot of that is tanks. ?

I love the details as well. Not the Characters skirmish battles but the details and history found inside their armor and equipment; the helmets, the swords, the armor. ?All that appeals to me as well. ? ?

Will the 10mm give me the image of the repective forces. ?I know they will give a mass look. ?

Maybe that is why the true answer may be both. ?A 10mm horde for battle like the Pelanor fields with a small group of figures to play out "rear guard action" type. ?

Or maybe the answer lies in large blocks of 28mm figures, maybe 32 man infantry units and 18 man cav units. ?

Would that work as well? ?I hope that provides better insight into my mental debate.

Of course is this is what I wake up and worry about, I'm a pretty lucky guy. ?Or I haven't watched enough news lately to make me depressed. ? :p

I'm so glad I'm not the only person that worries about it.  :D  :laugh:

Read the rules and choose that which feels better and after that start another.. that is what you eventually end up with. :D

To each his own, I guess. I'm worried enough about redundant and overlappping UI API methods and my inability to make any sense of them. :alien:

Seriously, I'd definitely use 10mm for mass battles. As for painting, trust me. It's incredible how much more detail can be crammed to those 4 additional millimeters.
