I have a lot of friends who stopped playing WH Fantasy because of GW's politics. Anyway, they have kept their old armies, so i was wondering: is there any fantasy wargame which could be used as an alternative to WHF, using WHF miniatures and basings? |

Have you tried this site, for free rules. Since they are free, many are also generic. http://www.freewargamesrules.co.uk/ then be beholden to noone. |

Armies of Arcana is the natural follow on to WHFB. It appears to have the same kind of feel to the game, and includes a full stats/points calculation for all units. |

Has anyone tried it? Does it have a decent campaign system? Is it true that you can devise even your own races using the point system? WH40k also had at one point a "create your own stuff" system, which makes me think: will it evolve the same way as WH? (non letting people to use their home-made army lists in competitions, changing edition once and again...) |

I have not tried it, so this is just what I have heard. The points system allows you to calculate any creature for any race. I dont think that it has much of a campaign system, if any. I dont think that there is any danger of it becoming the exclusive game that WHFB is. Thanes Games have been around for a while, and I think that this is the second edition, and updates were posted for free on the web site and the ability to use any minis remains. |

There's no campaign system. The unit/race construction system is one of the best (if not the best) I've seen. The game has a Yahoo! group Thane himself frequents. I would recommend giving it a try. Another possibility would be No Quarter by Wargmes Unlimited (it's free). |

Thanks for the info! Some people in my city are getting excited with the idea of an alternative wargame. I think we will try AoA after all... |
