They really are silly for not re-releasing man O War :)

To me it seems so obvious to "vertically integrate" their games, to get people to "collect your army in all scales!"

So, Man-O-War -> Warmaster -> WH Fantasy

And:

BFG -> EPIC -> 40k -> (Inquisitor?)

Ripe for the picking and they leave it on the vine to rot.

Actually, Mordheim would be a cool "fourth", for small, "kill team" like games.

Then you may as well include Necromunda for the 40k one then

*laugh*  That's what Inquisitor if for...  and, it's never gonna happen... even though it seems bloody obvious to do such a thing.  *sigh*

It is a shame. An opportunity lost for selling Epic.

Am doing a narrative based camapaign with local Ork player with variety of games including BFG/Epic/W40k/Combat patrol. With a few games of Planetstrike and Cities of Death for variety.

Cheers

James

And back to Uncharted territories.....

Something very unusual has happened.
People familiar with my modeling career (or lack of) will know I have two traits:
1) never completing projects
2) weird conversions, of which 2% are successful

This afternoon I completed my first two ships for US (Uncharted Seas) - a Dwarf cruiser and a Dragon Lord frigate - which served as paint scheme test models. Both 'worked' first time round. And now all my US models (not many, admittedly - 13) are painted in basecoat colours - a first for me. And not one has been converted!
Uncanny! :ghost:
Pics of the completed ships tomorrow.

EDIT - there, I knew it wouldn't last - now up to 14 (still all basecoated), and the new addition is a conversion. But I haven't harmed any US ship, just a USS one from the civil War, pressed into Dwarf service. Actually the secret is to use the Dwarfs in VSF and vice versa....

Well, here you go Tas.
Dragon Lord frigate first. Notice the lack of conversion and the straightforward paint job - really odd for me!

The Dwarf cruiser - again, no messing around here!

Great job mate, I think the simplicity of your colour schemes adds a lot to models like these and lets the detail (and your nice washes) pop out.

And your background is beautifully thematic too - what is it?

Yes, nice looking simple but excellent paint jobs and the background map works great for pics.

Thanks guys
I think simple works best for these, and the detail in the models helps. All it took was a basecoat, some shading, mainly on the sails of the frigate (which, incidentally, is taller and not much smaller than the dwarf cruiser!), and a black wash, with some cleaning up afterwards using thinned down paint of the underlying colour.

And your background is beautifully thematic too - what is it?

Well, Tas, it's called a map, see, a drawing which shows nations and seas and mountains and stuff - I say, don't let the Australian navy know that you're unfamiliar with them! They might reduce your pay!  :p  :;):
Seriously: it's a very nicely crafted reproduction of a 1610 map by cartographer John Speede, showing 'The Invasions of England, Wales and Ireland' - not quite 'uncharted' seas! it's printed on parchment-like material by The Old Map Company, and is just one of a very wide range. For such a nicely-produced item it's quite cheap - around 2.90GBP, I believe. The only pity is that it's folded and not rolled up - although I believe you can get them unfolded as well.

So what starter fleets do you guys recommend?
I managed to narrow it down to my top 6 but am finding it harder to refine it any further!
As a minimum I'm thinking Iron Dwarves, Shroud Mages, Orks and Bone Griffons

I just picked up the Shroud Mages on the weekend.

Quite in love with the look of them although I have to admit I was sorely tempted by the concept of undead whales.

:vD

ha ha, very funny my friend, except...
its NOT a map...its a chart!

Well my fleets arrived today..the first 4 anyway
There was some damage en route though sadly, particularly to the spiky upperdeck fixtures on the ork cruisers, and to the stern railing on the Dragon Lord cruisers.  The Lad immediately claimed the Dwarves and the Dragon Lords as the coolest models there.

Hopefully, I'll have some time to get stuck into some painting this weekend, but the dillema remains...which fleet to start with?  :vD
