OK. I have tried to like 40K:4Ed... I really have. I bought the rule book (well, had it given as a present). I have read it cover to cover. I emerse myself in the background (which I love) and I own several Codex books. However, I just really dont like the game. I am not saying that it is bad, just that it is certainly not for me. I have looked at Void, which doesnt grab me and Warzone, which I find a bit cartoony. I got into Vor, and will continue to look at it favourably. After a random comment thrown up elsewhere about Pig Iron minis (which look really cool), I came across the game 'Defiance: Vital Ground'. This looks really interesting, and I wondered if anyone here has heard of it or has experience with it? Currently, this and Infinity look like being interesting 'future investments' to sit on the shelf next to Vor. The game web site is here: Majestic 12 Games A review is here: RPGnet Review Thanks. |

Hhhmm. The construction system looks certainly promising. Wasn't there another review in some recent issue of Fictional Reality? EDIT: Nope, it seems I was mistaken. No review. ![]() |

I agree about the construction system. I want a system that is a little limiting, but complex enough to create the troops that you actually want. I am also impressed by the fact that there are different types of firing by the look of it. In fact, the only thing that doesnt make this an instant buy is the lack of a campaign system. Still, I think that I will be ordering a copy of this book... just for community review reasons, clearly! ![]() |

When it comes to wargaming I have the attention span of a hummingbird and absolutely no patience! OK, so I ordered the rule book, delivered from the US. I could have got the PDF version, but I really prefer the printed book. I will try to remember to let you know what I think when it arrives (assuming I have not moved on to something else before then!). |

I'm actually writing the army builder for it, and I tell you, the complexity of the design system is kicking my butt. As far as the mechanics go, I think DVG does most things very well, but a few things oddly. It certainly has more flexibility to it than 40K or many other 28mm systems. My game of choice is still Stargrunt, but Stargrunt isn't really a "skirmish" game, since the squad/team is the basic unit (versus the individual). |

Rather you than me! I would not want to disentangle the construction system like this! I have heard that the rules set has a few oddities in it, but that these are a side-product of some of the benefits which are apparent. I like the ideals behind the system, where morale is important, where squads dont need to remain within a certain distance of their team-mates, etc. Sometimes, you just find a set of rules and you know that you will like it, even when you know almost nothing about it. I have a feeling that I will like these rules. |

Actually, you were completely correct. There are actually two reviews of the game in Fictional Reality. The first is in issue 21, page 65. The second is in issue 16, under its previous name of 'Starslayer'. As far as I can tell, the game is almost unaltered from the previous name/edition. It also appears that Starslayer had a suppliment with a few army lists, etc. |

Hi Guys, I'm actually looking for a beer & pretzels skirmish set. That and I'm wishing that I could get the Mongoose Publishing Portents Magazine to load correctly as I want to read their article about the rerelease of the 10mm sci-fi GROPOS line! Aaaaaggghhh! I also recently downloaded "The Hellion" system fron John Bear Ross. Shalom, Maksim-Smelchak. |

Hi Andreas, It looked OK, but I'm not the biggest fan of skirmish systems. I like the work he's put into the system and the rest of the items he has on his site, but toher than pretty graphics and miniatures, the system looks like most other I've seen. In fact, it reminds me a lot of Star Mogul. Shalom, Maksim-Smelchak. |

Just an update on this. I ordered the rule book, but there is a minor hold up of printed versions. Despite only waiting two weeks, and the order still likely to be dispatched within three weeks of placing the order, the MJ12 guys emailed me a PDF copy of the rules to keep me busy! Really nice gesture. There will now be a brief quiet period while I read the 250+ pages. |

Defiance is a pretty cool system. ?I looked at if for the same reasons. ?I like 40k in general and the figures but I hate the rules. ?So I bought the Defiance rules. I have only been able to play it once though. ?6mm games tend to take precedence. ?Right now it is my choice for 28mm sci-fi rules. ?But I also like a set of rules with the extra bits like suppression, different modes of firing, etc. ?Plus the rulebook has a nice layout. ?The only minor draw back is the complexity of the army design section. ?But I would recommend it. -Audrey |

That was one of my main reasons for picking it up! I am an accountant in the world of wargaming! ![]() It does look a very interesting system so far. |
