Is there a game that would easily allow battles between different TV/Film forces eg Battlestars vs Star destroyers? As usual all the outlets for such ships seem to be American, is there a decent uk ship shop? I dont like paying extra VAT and import charges. |

You are asking two different questions. A lot of games will allow mixed mythos battles. Anything with a construction formula would work. If you are mainly interested i nStar Wars Vs Star Trek, probably the X-Wing family of games is best, as the same rules engine has been used for both franchises. Alternatively, games like Full Thrust and even BFG will have rules out there for a variety of ships. As for minis, it gets more complicated. The license will only officially be granted to a max of one company to produce ships. The UK doesnt have a lot of independent online retailers, and space games are a niche within a niche. Its going to be difficult to find an online store that carries a variety of different ships that arent linked to a specific game. Wayland Games might, but they are about the largest in the UK that I know if right now, and so if they dont I suspect that importing is the only real alternative. If you have a friend in the US, you could at least get them delivered to him and pay a single shipping/import from there..... |

For clarity: I`m only really interested in Ships that can pass for fitting in with established universes particularly Star Wars , Galactica and Blakes 7-obviously i would like to pick up official models for the "Headline" ships eg star destroyers but have no problem filling out a force with" looks similar" stuff for variety. Since the initial post i have found a few nice filler ships by Brigade particularly freight ships. I hve never been keen on "homebrew "ships in-particular GW stff seems very lame to me. |

Still not following you here. Like CS says, you got two independent things going on here: 1. A game and rules 2. Miniatures #2 is easily done as Star Wars and Star Trek have tons of models available in fleet scale. BSG, B5, and M:E: universes have plenty around such as from http://studiobergstrom.com/ and others. You really just need to pick your line. (myself, I'm waiting for someone to make a good fleet scale Macross set myself) #1 is as easy as picking a game and using them as count-as in an existing system OR use a system that has a star ship builder an you can write your own lists OR use something that covers both universes (as CS pointed out). It's not about homebrewing ships in the universe as most of the big IPs have plenty of items already and more about applying what you want. I'm planning on a Mass Effect fleet using BFG Imperials vs Chaos for my Turian / Alliance ships. |

Yes they are 2 questions but they relate to the same potential project so it made sense to me to pose them both together rather than post 2 threads. I like the look of the Bergstrom stuff but this-as far as i am aware falls into the import trap (i can`t find a uk seller). In terms of picking a game-i have never played any ship games so i`m looking for guidance on other peoples preferred systems. |

Ah, if you are looking for ships that 'work with', its another question. The best thing would be to find a few UK mini makers and trawl through their spaceship range. For example, Ground Zero Full Thrust has Firefly: http://www.groundzerogames.co.uk/index. ... uct_id=341 The FT range is pretty big, and there are a few BSG and Space 1999 influences in there too. You have Brigade, Ground Zero (Full Thrust), Kalistra, Spartan Games (Firestorm Armada), Halo (coming soon) and Homeworld (here - http://www.fate-amenable-to-change.co.u ... garan.html) There is Space Battleship Yamato, but they are in the US, along with a LOAD of 'inspired designs' on Shapeways. |
