Is this the approriate place to ask if Strike Legion can get its own forum area here? Since this is the place for 6mm, and its becoming a strong contender as a viable game, I'd love to chat in a dedicated place for it.

Is this a possibility?

How many Strike Legion threads are there already? Can we start off with threads in existing forums areas- otherwise we are just cluttering up the forums for little reason.

There likely arent many...but many other games have their own location so I thought I'd ask. No worries... :)

Well it's down to C/S at the end of the day. I have commented that we have too many sub-forums as it is already, but that is just my own personal opinion. C/S may have a differing view.

Just saying that it would be easier to justify a new sub-forum if there were already several relevant threads about the subject. Feel free to start the ball rolling!

Cheers

James

I have ::) I brought up the sub-forum thing, and Ive started at least one informative thread about the game here...and I know KJ is a regular around here too. We'll see what CS says, but thanks for the replies, WI!

As an up and coming 6mm game, Strike Legion is an excellent candidate for a dedicated board. Start a few threads here, get the ball rolling, and - with interest - I will create a new board and move them across. Thanks.

I'd like to see at least one Strike Legion battle report in Incoming! magazine. Then people can get a good look at how it plays.

Same goes for FWC.

I should maybe also explain my goal here. Long term, I want every 6mm/10mm game/miniature series represented here, with a dedicated board (and sub-boards only if necessary). I want discussion on the vast array of army scale games out there, with active discussion, comments and feedback on the systems and miniatures, scenarios, hints and tips. I may speculitively add the occassional board in preparation, but I don't want to just add a whole raft of boards for all the games at once, which will all have no posts in them in. We need interest and discussion, and the boards will follow. I want to grow the site, forums and discussion to be the absolute number one place on the web, worldwide for army scale wargaming. That is all 'blue sky PR' and long term, but it should give some background to some of the decisions that I make here.

And they would be wise to take you up on that offer CS. Exodus Wars takes a hefty percentage of it's sales and a heftier percentage of it's inspiration from your forums.

Tip of the hat to you CS. You run a tight ship :D.

Plus I'm addicted to the forums, I have the forums up on my browser 24 hours a day. Pretty sure I read almost 100% of the threads.

Hi C/S- thats a great goal. If we are to concentrate on 6mm gaming, please could you clear up some of the other scale boards then. It is too cluttered at the moment before we add any new boards.

Please could you tidy it up to the following
-One section for 6mm gaming at top, with sub-sections as you see fit.
-One section for other scales beneath, with single sub-sections for each of other sci-fi, fantasy, ancients, VSF & Steampunk, and modern gaming
-One section for general with sub sections for trades and OT discussions
-One section for painting with sub sections for TOEG, 6mm, other scales, casting and terrain
-One section for Net EA playtesting with sub-sections as current.

Basically to put focus on 6mm gaming, painting and modelling, and Net EA Playtesting.

Thanks

James

I'd like to see that as well. Problem with getting reviews/replays published is the amount of materials submitted to or requested by any publication/blog - they always seem to have too many items to cover for 'mainstream' games, and copies from independents tend to languish for long periods of time before receiving any attention. At least that's been my experience - literally dozens of promo/review copies sent out for three game systems over the last 14 months, and not a single review or replay to be found. :(

Remember that CS has said army scale games, not 6mm in particular. I believe he has defined "army scale" as anything up to and including 10mm scale. Thus I would prefer that games be seperated by genre instead of scale. I think we could combine the Historical and Modern sections, and could include VSF under SF or fantasy, but I like the setup now. It is disappointing that some sections are underutilized, but what can you do?

We might be alble to reduce the length of the front page by having a "Rules" section with the SF,VSF, Fantasy, etc. sections nested within it, but I'm not sure it would make things easier to navigate, just tidier.

Hi WI. That is, broadly, what we already have. The last three of the five that you suggest are already in place. The only difference would be to combine all of the game genres into a single board. But, if we did that, to get to the EA Battle Report board, for example, you would be adding an extra layer, making it:

Gaming > Sci Fi > EA > BatReps

What we have now is the same but without that top layer of Gaming.

I am not sure if it is clear, but all boards are designated as 'army scale' (6mm, 10mm and smaller), so 'VSF' for example includes Dystopian Wars, Timelines, etc. Any non-army scale games of any type all go into the 'other scales' board, and if there is a huge discussion on a single, non-army scale game it can get a sub-board, but I am not encouraging this and it will take a lot of persuading. This is why we have seperate FoW and BFG boards as sub-boards of the 'other scales'. It is a deliberate attempt to marginalise larger scale miniature games, without cutting off people's other wargaming interest and giving them a place to talk about other stuff as well.

Honestly, right now, I think that many of the issues that people have with the layout is actually because there are not enough boards. Essentially, I have been moving towards a broader structure, but without the individual boards in place, the structure isn't obvious, or even as logical.

Hi C/S

I had understood the following all to be other scales rather than "army scale":
-General Fantasy Wargames
-General Historical Wargames
-General Modern Wargames
-General Alternate History Wargames
-Other Scale Wargames
(plus BFG and FOW)

Certainly a lot of what gets posted to the above is other scales- hence why I would want all of these sub-sections kept as separate sub-sections but folded up into Other Scale Wargames.

Then sinply rename Science Fiction Wargames as "Army Scale Wargames". Then fold in subesction for Timeline 300 in with these. So still only 3 levels- just more clarity in name.

Then with the other folded in as sub-sections to Other Scale Wargames it would be a lot tidieier and certainly a lot shorter in screen length. Putting emphasis back on Army Scale games. Then if we add some more Army Scale sub-sections it will still be manageable.

I hope that helps clarify what I meant

Thanks very much

James
