DS - It might be the centaur looking skimmer-thingy... Dang, this time Dave himself was faster.  :sigh:  :p

Ah! The story of the 47th (Mechanized Imperial Guard) Regiment of Birka IV, the Sun-Seekers.
There's actually a tale to tell. As someone said, fluff is both paramount and required for IG.

Ok, it goes like this...

Notice how there's a string of planets called Birka to the right in the Alfakta sector? There's I, II, III and... V. Looking really close one can see a blacker area where Birka IV ought to be.
And it is, but... Well let me put it this way; if you take a box of balls in various sizes. Footballs, golf balls, handballs etc. Then imagine removing all balls and have the areas of air around them be planet remnants. That's what's left of Birka IV after a vortex grenade attack got a bit out of hand.
The ensuing vortiation had permanent effects on the scarce remainders. Females got unchanged, as did abhumans. The male population on the other hand... Let me put it this way; the females aren't looking to the males for... intimacy any longer.

Good point. I hadn't thought of them.

I got an email back.  In short, they'll see how it goes and design is critical.

I was actually hoping for something like the old look for the skimmers.  An android sitting on top/strapped into/welding into a hover platform with a gun to the side. A Centaur like skimmer might be too close.

I'm not sure what the old skimmers might have looked like, but my thought was that the sprue could include some heavy-weapons skellies, and then (separately) some skimmer bodies that looked kind of like an oval lozenge with one end cut off flat.  Add panel lines, greeblies, etc., but leave a small flat space on top towards the flattened end.  That way, the player can chop off a heavy-weapons fig at the waist and glue it onto the skimmer if he wants to create a Destroyer proxy.

Add two styles of wraith-like beings, a robotic snake that could be stood on its tail, and a few other such items, and you have all the makings for a good proxy army with fairly minimal conversion work.

Good news.
This might be the way to go for certain armies?

Here's what I just posted to the WF thread;  tell me your thoughts:

Given that controversy has now found us, here are some design-oriented thoughts on making this project IP-safe:

  • Androids:  Skeletons with laser guns.
  • Heavy Androids:  Skeletons with shoulder-mounted laser cannons.
  • Infiltration Androids:  Running skeletons, or maybe "rage"-style zombies, with claws.
  • Skimmers:  I envision skimmer bodies that look kind of like a flattened, oval lozenge with one end cut off flat.  Add panel lines, greeblies, etc., but leave a small flat space on top towards the flattened end.  That way, the player can choose to mount an android on top or not.
  • Android Repair Skimmer:  Robotic spider or scorpion.
  • Serpentine Androids:  Robotic skeletal snake in flattened "S" shape, that could be posed on its belly or tail as the player desires.
  • Evolved Android:  Not sure on this one...
  • Android Lord:  A skeletal wizard, with cloak and staff.

Again, since no company owns the rights to skeletons, skeletons with guns, robots, or robotic animals, then I think this project can be accomplished with no danger of IP infringement whatsoever.

Thanks,
jav98

Probably worth showing them the drm necrons to show one company getting away with it.

Dang, if this happens, I might actually be tempted to collect a Necron army. Having to convert or scratchbuild everything was stopping me.

  • Android Repair Skimmer:  Robotic spider or scorpion.

  • Jav, you are a grade A genius!!!!!

If you have a robotic scorpion, you can cut off his tail and put a skeletal robot torso on said tail!

No one could argue a scorpion is the same thing as a spyder.

I tried logging in W/F, but for some reason couldn't ...  Regardless ... I think TRC has a good point - DRM did it and E/W is going to do it soon ...  As long as they don't look too much like G/W's ... However as many said here, G/W ain't got the legal rights to Mech Skellys with weapons !  Plus there are many other Android designs they could go for ... :ghost:    And I notice 6mm biased on the W/F site and TMP ... Asking why 6mm, etc.    And both sites have members preoccupied with the thought that they may look too much like G/W - the "N" wrod ...   I think W/F is smart enough to not make copies of the "N" word ...  :ghost:  :vD

I'm surprised nobody has proposed 6mm scale zombies sprue.

Or a "Armored sci-fi nuns, with flying and heavy weapon variants" sprue.

Or for that matter, a "Armored sci-fi nuns vs. zombies" sprue.

Hm, we could have the bald-headed figure, the wimple-headed figure, the mohawk-headed figure, and the helmeted figure.
