I like the Camospecs site, but just cant decide on a scheme.  I'm thinking I will chicken out of the all bright red (L4 will be proud) and go for something more subdued like the Legion of Vega's greys with some red pannelling characteristic of Kurita.  That is very do-able in a week, though I would like to make the plastic mechs a bit more animated.
WI - thats exactly what I am doing too, and trying to split the intro box mechs into the factions.  Would be very interested in how you did that (which mechs to which army). Think I need some more to round out 2 companies properly, but should at least get half these ones painted before I buy more!  Seriously look at buying more anyway.  The odd one or two would be fine, surely...  So who has some spares? ÂÂ
I had some old metal mechs years ago (along with nearly all the old cannon and scenario books) but they have been sadly lost over time and the many moves related to service life.  Most sad was the loss of my original beloved Heavy Lance made up of a Rifleman, Archer, Marauder and Warhammer - still my all time favourite mechs!
Hi Tas- Legion of Vega sounds cool. I was quite tempted by the 15th Dieron Regulars myself. Flat grey colour scheme would also work well as merc company. But in the end I might stick with classic Kurita red so can use for Starterbook Sword & Dragon campaign.
I know what you mean about the plastic mechs in the Intro Box Set. I started off disliking their quality realised that they are fine especially once painted, and would be a cheap way of getting the number of mechs needs to cover all of the options for the random mech tables in Starterbook Sword & Dragon.
Especially as my opponent, Colin aka Kleomenes from this forum, was happy to play Kurita but no longer has any mechs. I was figuring on eventually getting 2 box sets as you need at least 24 mechs to meet all of the choices from random mech tables and also the recomended "historical" starting forces for Foxes Teeth/Sorensons Sabres.
In which case I will swap out the Jenner+Panther+Dragon so that will have 2 of each of these 3 in Kuritan force. And likewise boost the Davion force by taking 2 each of Enforcer+Dervish+Jagermech.
My starting splits were as follows:
Kurita: Atlas, Grasshopper, Catapult, Hunchback, Dragon, Quickdraw, Rebuchet, Whitrorth, Cicada, Jenner, Panther, Spider
Davion: Banshee, Cyclops, Awesome, Zeus, Jagermech, Enforcer, Dervish, Assasin, Clint, Hermes II, Commando.
This gave weight advantge of 70 tonnes to Davion but only 235 BV difference.
The Assassin and Hermes II as Marik mechs could have been assigned to either. Likewise the Vindicator is a Liao mech- I figured that Davion was more likely to obtain one as salvage. I was torn on several mechs such as Atlas, Grasshopper, Catapult and Cyclops. Could have gone either way.
When I posted on CBT offical forums most feedback agreed with at least 10 or 11 of my choices. So I was glad I was fairly close with my initial guess. But the good thing is you can justify almost any allocation you want as probably three quartes of the 24 plastic mechs are usable by all of the main & minor factions. Even mechs such as Enforcer, Dragon and Vindicator might be readily identified with specific factions but could easily be fielded in any force. My understanding is that it is only once you get into 3050's and 3060's that you get faction specific mechs.
Like yourslef I am forcing myslef not to buy 2nd box set until I have initial 24 plastic mechs painted to give me 2 starting companies. The =n I need to get back to my metal CBT figures before I buy any more of them too.
Cheers
James
