Reaper have always said that they would be unable to continue CAV development after the main rule book, and that they would hand this over to a third party. I always assumed that this would be a publishing house, who would throw out suppliments. However, the development has been passed over to Mil-Net, who are the main 'fan site' for CAV (I use fan site loosely as the admits consist of ex-Reaper employees and freelance developers for the game).

The announcements are here:

Reaper

Mil-Net

Essentially, Reaper will continue to support the core rules (typo fixing, etc) and producing miniatures. Mil-Net has a one year license (in the first instance, I guess) to put together suppliment 'books', sold through their site, in PDF and printed form.

This is an interesting development. Now, who wants to tell Andy at SG about this?

I don't think that any such radical shift in business model paradigms will get even modest attention at GW.

In my investigations last week that resulted in the post in the "slow death" thread, one of the reasons given for the lack of SG support was their inability to get minis into production to support the development.  I would assume that even if GW by some miracle thought that Reaper's CAV idea was worth trying, the same would still hold true.  The capital outlay is really in production lines, not in the rule/background development and GW is adamant about not releasing rules without the supporting minis.

FWIW, I did send Andy an email about using freelancers to produce material for SG games that laid out what I think would be a way for GW to get borderline slave labor to do their development for them.  He's never given any indication that he read it (which I assume means he thinks it's pointless to discuss, not that he hasn't read it).  C'est la vie.

Or that whatever personal stuff kept him busy has, well, kept him busy.

i think Andy would like support for the current slavelabour operation, i.e. the magazine.

Hell if we all got a chance for more regular playtesting and easy to use pdf tools FAnatic mag would be epic dominated for the next two years!

I would guess that if Andy has not replied it was because GW policy doesnt allow him to comment on managerial decisions. I take your point about SG output though. It is the speed of miniature release that dictates SG output, and without these resources things slow down considerably.

What I dont understand, however, is the lack of output regarding stuff that we have actually seen. Epic Chaos Bikes and Dreadnoughts, BFG Mars fleet. These could have a very easy release - the models exist, and the fan base can be relied on to come up with rules as good as GW comes out with. So, why isnt this done?
