A place for Canadians/North Americans to pick up DRM miniatures. The announcement also stated that Command Horizon are likely to be added to the store in the near future.

Is there any idea who these people are C/S?

I've never heard of them until now and since the only thing they stock at the moment is DRM I'd feel more comfortable ordering from them if I had a clue who they might be.

It's run by PixelGeek.  Former ERC member.  If anyone still has doubts, I've bought from him on eBay with no complaints.

It's a nice resource if you live in Canada, but if you live in the US, not so much.

His mark up is VERY reasonable, but shipping to the US is so high that you only save a small amount IF you sellect ground shipping (very slow).  Shipping by air makes it more expensive than buying direct from DRM.

I will say that I don't believe this is in any way due to price gouging on his part.  Shipping between US and Canada isn't much cheaper than between the US and UK, if at all.

Yep, I think until Steve's return to Heritage/DRM US ... I'll be ordering direct from Doug/DRM UK. But we'll be making a order soon from Doug !   :D

Canada Post increased their shipping rates to the US and Internationally last month.

Not much I can do about that especially since the government makes it, effectively, illegal for UPS or Fed-Ex to undercut Canada Post.

I am not sure what the current status of Steve and Heritage is. Doug was going to get that clarified.

US gamers might also want to remember that the prices on the site are, by default, in Cnd funds and you can change that to US funds to save yourself a few percent.

I'm not certain what the rates are from the US to the UK.

Also please note that the time estimates also come from the Canada Post website and they are typically worst case scenarios. I've never had a package take two weeks to get to the US. Five business days is typical

To add some context to the postage issue.

All postage from inside Canada is expensive.  Canada Post operates differently than the USPS in that it is mandated to generate revenue each year. IIRC the USPS runs at a deficit most years or at least it has the option to do so.

Even Fed-Ex and UPS shipments from Canada are expensive. Typically twice what Canada Post charges.

I am currently looking into what I can do to lower the charges for shipping.

I've bought enough stuff from our friendly neighbors to the North to know there wasn't much that could be done about it.  

I certainly hope my message didn't seem like a put down.  I did indicate that I was happy with our eBay dealings and that I thought the mark up was not just fair, but VERY fair.  Also that I felt it was a good resource for those that live in Canada (well, I hope it's cheaper to mail inside the country than outside).  I was just trying to provide US residents all the facts.

I'm all in favor of anything that will support and spread DRM and have nothing against Pixelgeek or Cloud City.  If someone in the US wishes to support him, I am in no way trying to discourage that.  Just trying to make sure it is an informed decision.

My apologies if there was any offense

And then theres the brokerage fees at the border as well.

UPS being the worse of the two for them I've had $45 in fees added to a $75 package with UPS.

Have you looked at small packet service PG?

Up to 1 Kilogram to the US via small packet ground only takes 10-12 days maximum and still comes with $100 insurance and at 2/3 the cost of regular parcel service.

Out the of almost a thousand small packets I've shipped to the US and overseas in the last 2 years or so I think I've only ever had one go missing. And even then I'm not sure it wasn't the customer lying about it not being delivered.

UPS is indeed really bad. I've had $30 Cnd fees for brokerage service for products before.

Is small packet service via Canada Post?

I just thought it might be interesting to share some context for people here.

Canada Post is expensive. So much so that Dream Pod 9 now does all their US mail through a company that ships it across the border to mail it from the US.
