Hi all, 1st of all - if this thread is misplaced here, please shift where appropriate. It's web news ok: it just hasn't happened yet. The point is I'm interested in setting up a website to show a few pics and stuff related to enginseering (Epic-style) - but (for shame!) have precious little idea where to start. I know how to create web pages etc., but would appreciate some tips on how best to get some web space for around 6 or 7 pages with a few pics on each. And perhaps a pic archive? Thanks all. ![]() |

How much money you got? Free webspace is not worth the effort due to the advertising... it puts people off. How about your ISP, do they provide webspace? I would be happy to host a gallery of pictures aka Maksim's Gallery |

The EPICentre was originally free, but due to the servers always failing, bandwidth limits, advertising etc. We had to get a paid for account. Powweb.com is good... |

Ah, thanks guys. Money eh - hmmm, definitely not loads of that! Re the ISP, yes they do, but it's not exactly cheap; they provide some space for free to clients, but it's very little if I'm not mistaken. Jimbo, what's Maksim's gallery? I went there and there seems to be loads of space! (curious) What's the link to Maksim? Anyway - this would do very well - it's not a real website I want to set up, just somewhere to display a few pics of stuff I produce. De'Aynes splits up the pics (rightly so, bec. of its reference function), and I find yahoo folders a bit clunky. I'd insist on paying the rent for that bit of space, of course. How many pics could I place there? Oh, and tyhis would be post-digital camera purchase, so no grainy webcam pics! Netepic, I'll have a look at Powweb too and see what's on offer. Thanks again. ![]() |

A cheap alternative is to join some of the Yahoo Groups and post pictures there. Another route to take is find out if your service provider has free space. Mine does, not a lot mind you, but some. and it is part of the access fee I am already paying. dafrca |

www.interia.pl is a good server - if you understand Polish language. As for pic hosting, I turned to Photobucket, which cut shot any and all bandwidth exceeded issues previously encountered. They have 300 MB space and like 3 gigs bandwidth for month! |

A pay site doesn't have to cost you a fortune either. My site costs roughly $10 a year, has 125 mb space and free bandwith usage. Enough for most average users IMO. Cheers! ![]() |

Sorry T5H, I don't understand Polish, other than a single expression I learnt at the shipyard where we had several Poles working, and I don't think it's useful in this case. But Photobucket sounds interesting. Anyway, thanks to all for the various suggestions. ![]() |

Photobucket just decreased the size of free accounts and their bandwidth by 50% - but it's still not bad, either. I also had an URL for a host search engine, but can't locate the textfile containing it ATM. |

Hi all, well I'm half way there. Meaning that I'm online, but still camera-less - and therefore pic-free! The first page up can be found here It's obviously incomplete; and don't look for an artsy page - it's as decorative as an enginseer could make it: a dull, functional grey! Still, once I get the pics aboard, it should improve. I'll be posting a few comments on problem-solving in conversion work too. ABove all, many MANY thanks to NETEPIC ![]() Thanks to all the others as well. Jimbo, knowing me I'll have a surfeit of photos from the camera. If they'll be ok (I usually only manage to take good photos if an aeroplane is fixed to the camera) I'l send you some - different from those on my site, for variety's sake - for your pages, if that's ok by you - or unless you need the space for better stuff! |

nice and plain (which I like) minor point change the page title from Home Page to something more illuminating (it will certainly make Google look more closely) |
