Hey all, I might be behind in my info but is GW ramping up to a new edition of epic? There was a picture of a warhound titan on one of the latest teasers for Adeptus titanicus that had a flat round base, I have seen a few posts that talk about this being for the new epic that is rumoured. Does anyone have any intel on this?

Be helpful if you had a link to said picture but I wouldn't see why an epic-like game wouldn't just use the same old bases the AT stuff came with. More likely it's angle or something else inconsequential.

One day GW will produce something along those lines again but I don't see anything indicating it's on the way.

No intel, but the Warhammer Official account on Instagram recently posted an image of John Blanche's Epic 40,000 artwork with the caption "The Blood Angels take on the Orks in an epic conflict!". My immediate reaction was that they're planning to re-release Epic.

It's spiky bits so expect a horrific ad filled website.

Chapter Master Valrak on YouTube and the Faeit 212 website basically act like epic-scale Horus Heresy is a done deal due this coming fall. I assume that a new version of the game set during the Heresy (read: no xenos) is going to happen eventually, but whether it happens this year or sometime later isn’t as clear to me.

People like to downrate both of those sources, but it seems to me like they usually get the general content correct, but rarely predict the correct timing.

That said, I hope GW adds xenos models sooner rather than later. I’m not all that hopeful, though, even if they do release “Epic” this year. Based on the way they’ve handled the current epic scale games - with the trickle of AT and AI releases - it seems like the model designers don’t have the same enthusiasm for epic scale stuff compared to what the studio has for Necromunda. I get the sense that the epic scale stuff is treated like more of a chore.

Am I getting this right....? The initial rumour is built on the fact that an image of an AT Titan had a different base? And thats it.....?

Rumours about a new edition of Epic have been around since before we got the 2018 version of AT, and given that we have already had four versions, its almost inevitable that there will be a 5th at some point. Given the rise of Horus Heresy, and the spike in popularity that AT caused - and the cost saving logic that launched the first version of the game! - a new edition of Horus Heresy would be the most likely at this point. That said, BFG had rumours of a new version since Dreadfleet was released and most of the Specialist Games were 'supposed to get a new edition' since SG closed its doors.

So.... I would assume that there is a new version on the way. Its probably mostly done and GW are simply holding it back for a window when it won't distract players from the core games and releases, I would assume it will be 30K and released in the next 2 years, but I place precisely zero weight on the 'article' linked above.

The thing that makes that idea even more ridiculous is that the base is clearly not detailed in epic scale (unless that hex nut is the size of a person, and meters-wide floor panels are only held down at their corners).

With regard to that base on Spikey Bits, it seems to me that the edge of the base has been trimmed (quite roughly) in editing software to make it look thinner. It's also worth remembering that the bases for the OG Epic titans were just as thick as the current AT18 bases. While there may be no limits to what GW is capable of, I'd be surprised if they changed the titan base thickness just for the sake of Epic. Are they seriously going to tell people that they can't play in official Epic tournaments using titans on legit GW AT18 bases and vice versa?

That, and Duncan Rhodes painting stuff from the Epic 40k box set on his Youtube channel. ::)

So it's an "epic conflict", but not an "Epic conflict"? Maybe I'm splitting hairs, but that seems like a stretch conclusion to me.

To be honest, I don't need another edition of Epic.

TY
That photo is a low quality photoshop trimming of the base edge. Open it in PS or another tool and you can see the artifacts.

Well, looks like the new version of Epic is here. Though limited to The Horus heresy.

Slimmer base size for titans as well.

Well that puts the speculation to bed and I’m super excited I must say!

And if it gets the take up in the HH era, it could easily generate a 40K edition (and for AT as well)

I'm hoping it will be AT compatible from the get go.

The rulebook includes Titans, but it's highly unlikely that they will use actual AT rules.

'all of your Adeptus Titanicus and Heresy-relevant Aeronautica Imperialis miniatures can be used in Legions Imperialis thanks to rules and unit profiles found in the massive Legions Imperialis Rulebook'
