I think it will lead to the slow decline of EA.... newcomers will pick up the new rules and want to play that, tournament players will gradually drift away as they always have but this time will not be replaced, and it will end up in a similar situation to netepic with a few groups of diehards continuing to play, but a strong decline in the scene in terms of tournaments and development as people choose the path of least resistance

Don't over think it ... ;)

My buddy in the Army was 5'5" and an Airborne Ranger ... so there is that ... :whistle

I think it depends on how good the new rules are (perceived to be).

I doubt it.... most people want the new thing.... I've been pushing epic at my local club with minimal success then when some people spotted the few bits of forumware I had, they were interested, they really couldn't give a crap about the rules

The vast majority of customers will come from GW and will hear about it from GW, they will buy it to use multiple warlord titans in a game, even if said ruleset is a tad pants....

:nooo

yeah no worries here. great, just means more people can play EA now ;)

honestly this is an insignificant difference in scale at table top distances. Especially as if you think about it, marines will finally actually be in fluff scale to the rest :D And who knows, maybe that game is fun. Maybe not and it's just pretty models. Until I can buy it I'm not wasting any time worrying about maybes.

The good news for EA is that the FW Horus Heresy books have sparked interest in representing battles with massed Space Marine infantry and tanks, and it could be years before this upcoming game gets that much model variety with no guarantee that it'll happen at all.

But there's a bigger issue. The rumor says that at 8mm, the Warlord titan could be about 6 inches tall. That calcs out - multiply the 22" height of FW's Warlord Titan by 8/28 and you get about 6". (For comparison, the Epic 40,000 Warlord model is just 2.75" tall!) Thing is, the 40k Knight Paladin is also about 6" tall. And it costs $140. That is going to hurt.

I wonder - Will it be a boxed game or a set of rules with titans for sale separately.

I would like to think I'm big enough to tell gw where to stick it after they shut down specialist games but I would be just lying to myself, I know I'm going to buy this! I do hope it's going to be chaos corrupted titans vs imperial titans not just 2 sets of identical titans painted differently.

I'm not holding out for good rules judging by their recent form...

Yeah, and I don't really see the current scene moving away to worse rules. Attracting new players may become trickier but it's not like GW will support this full on so that will merely be a temporary nuisance in the grand scheme of things.

Yes, well I don't think that GW will have the range of fan made models at least not anytime soon after 8mm AT is released. Which probably won't be this year.

Plus there my be a cost factor between GW and fan based if there are any fan based left out there ?
As for me ... I strongly doubt I'll buy any of the 8mm AT. I've got enough to paint as it is ! :o And my forces are pretty much filled out. Plus there is a lot of good 6mm sci-fi out there already. This was not the case when AT1/SM1 was released in '90-'91 ...

Now that being said, remember E:A only released SMs, IG, Orks and Eldar. I think we may find this happening with 8mm AT. As unless it's a Big seller they won't invest more that they have to. And that will depend on how well the initial 8mm AT is accepted and sells. Remember GW is really in business to make a profit. And that always does not always equate with the buyers' hopes and wants. As I who started "Epicing" in '90 with SM 1 ... we saw the rise and fall of Epic in 4 iterations ... No they are going to try a 5th. And there is no intel on even the rules systems.
I'm guessing they may add much more detail to Titans like in AT1. It came out first before SM1. And I'm sure they tested the waters with AT1 to see if SM1 would be a viable endeavor. After they thought to try 6mm game that included Infantry, Tanks, etc., ... That is just good business.

Now I wouldn't be too surprised if 8mm AT does not meet GW's profit expectations. They don't release the tanks, Infantry, etc. ... a they speculate they will. I've seen this done before with GW's management of it's Epic games. Too many times ... in the past ... ^-^

Well they released Chaos and Tau factions as well but still, good points L4. This being in the heresy is going to be more focused on marines and titans and will need to be a runaway success to see massive investments in large numbers of models and factions. Even FW hasn't addressed anything else in the HH (and rightfully so, the Eldar being a shattered race and reeling from the fall, Tau still rubbing sticks together, tyranids just starting their departure from the magllanic cloud, etc). And who knows perhaps it does become a monstrous hit and if so, fair play to FW. If I was in charge of the org I'd place that game squarely in the siege of the imperial palace where an 8mm game would be perfect imho. Also to note L4, this is not a GW ltd release but a spin off from the FW guys and tied to the HH 30k line. Add in roudntree is actually a FW guy originally and their recent big hits have overwhelmingly come from that side of the business they've got some business pull with GWplc parent corp. The success of BaC, which was thought up and designed by some FW guys was kinda the win that allowed this new SG styled group to take flight after all. I suspect that when all is said and done, this will be like most other FW releases: very high quality, fun, and expensive boutique models.

No, IIRC, E:A did not release Tau & Chaos. They were last released was with E40K ... IIRC ... And the Tau were only made by FW.
