Some of us actually choose 40k precisely BECAUSE it isn't a realistic wargame or realistic setting. God knows there's enough of the real thing around at the moment.

The 40k setting always has been a parody of the hyper-macho fetishisation of war, violence, xenophobia and unthinking religious devotion turned up to 11. Imho its follows in the tradition of sci fi satire such as 2000AD, Alan Moore, Heinlein, etc. Its great that some want to adapt to their own taste (and one of its strengths is that it is pretty flexible) but as KIC says - "real" 40k is spacemarines in bright red armour, sans helmet, favouring a chainsaw over his rifle - because.its.daft - and wont change no matter how many "holier than thou" wargamers tut about it (and they have been tutting ever since i started playing in the late 80s). Its just a shame that you obviously don't get the humour.

Back to some news on AT hopefully...

"just stop! take responsibility for your words instead of trying to switch the blame by basically saying 'poor me, everyone finds my comments offensive, it's clearly everyone else that has a problem and not me'

if you voiced your criticisms about GW in an actually critical way rather than this continual looking down your nose at not just the game itself but the people who choose to play the game, MAYBE you'd get a bit less flak and wouldn't have to play the 'wahh people found me offensive' card? "

I thought I was taking responsibility by saying that I upset some ... Guess not ? But as I said, there is no reason for me to continue this conversion. But if anyone continues to directly address me. I will respond ... I again clearly see, that my views are in the minority ... So unless someone directly addresses me. There is noting more I can say ... And I hope we all realize many are extremely angered about my negative opinions about playing with Toys. Yes, toys ... so much vitriol generated about playing with Toys ... Hmmm ?

For goodness sake. Everyone is entitled to a view and their own opinion.
Personally I don't see the parallel between titans and warships. To me, they are much more with personalities and even religious purposes. I also don't see why you would camouflage something as big as a skyscraper. But why would I be offended that others have a different view. Paint it whatever colour you like or follow one of the specific legion colours. There is no right or wrong just different opinions. Follow your own and enjoy.
Back to topic -
I am looking forward to the new release. Many will be disappointed its about titans only. I understand that. I love titans (and have the odd 1 or 2) - its a start.
I like the potential of the command consul and the possibility of new psi titans. I am hoping there may be the capacity to design your own class of titans as per AT1. On the other hand, many will only want WH40k referenced titans. I like kitbashing as much as playing the game so I like flexibility in titan designs. We are all different.
With the success of the Blood Bowl release I suspect we may have to wait longer than I hoped. Fingers crossed we see more than a Warlord, Reaver and War Hound. Anyway it will give me time to save $s.

It's....ahh....."heavily inspired" by 2000AD series Nemesis the Warlock, which features a Terran Empire, ruled over by an all powerful emperor with god-like powers who looks to have been a load of famous religious and military leaders from throughout history and who are hell-bent on exterminating all alien life. This is prosecuted mainly by the armies of fanatical quasi-religious soldiers called terminators who are explicitly in constant and perpetual war will all alien races in the galaxy.

There's obviously a load of other 2000AD stuff in there, mainly Rogue trooper and ABC warriors (also, those Adeptus Arbites look suspiciously like some other dudes I think i remember from somewhere) but a lot of the 40k backstory is eerily familiar to the dark and nihilistic Nemesis the Warlock (which was first published in 1980, seven years before the release of Rogue Trader and was still running in 1987).

Yes, I do generally agree with all that, with the overwhelmingly leaning to WWII, IMO ... But it's seems my comments are "offensive" ... so ... everybody should play any game they like ... I have to remember not to voice anything negative against GW, Epic, etc., etc., while on Tac Cmd ...

Yes we all know that it's madness to paint your armour in bright shiny colours, and that titans should behave like battleships and all the other stuff that is silly, but it's a future fantasy setting, it's literally made up, it's made up to entice 14 year old boys to collect and paint the toys, there are dozens of historical and alternative scifi/modern rulesets and mini manufacturers out there, go and paint and play those, or suspend your disbelief for 5 minutes that some of us don't CARE that it's not a f**king military simulation game, and having someone figuratively shaking their head and tutting at those of us who just want to have a bit of fun really sucks the enjoyment of out things.... the 40k universe is not, and has never been about realism..... you've got genetically engineered superhumans punching tanks with electric boxing gloves and fighting against artificially created fungus men who are designed only to fight fer chrissakes!!! it takes itself very seriously but surely it can be poked fun at in a way that doesn't disparage other people for how they choose to play the game

The game is basically a big anachronistic mashup of all human warfare and you painting stuff in camo and being all realistic about it is YOU not being true to the setting, not the other way round.... there are lots of people on these forums who have military backgrounds and/or interests in military history, yet they can see that the 40k universe doesn't cross into those realms and don't snort and laugh at it when someone paints their marines yellow or their eldar bright red

nobody is snorting at you for painting your marines in camo colours, I think it would be better for everyone if you returned the favour....

You forgot this:

Ok I think we've all had our say and we can drop this now.

Also, L4, it's apparent your force is painted to be 1d4Chan's Reasonable Marines so in the spirit of peace I proffer this

Cheers Mike, i'll look that up. Must admit my 2000AD reading was really only from odd issues i could beg, borrow or steal from the older kids at school. Mostly Dread and Rogue Trooper really.

But, yes, of course, the minds behind 40k were massive fans of 70s/80s "punk" scifi, and "borrowed" heavily. Id previously assumed the medieval empire / psychic demi-god thing was mostly lifted from Dune, but this sounds even more literal!

Can we please get back on topic.

not even close yet. Best we got from open day was "possibly 2017".
We've seen pictures of the control board but i don't think the rules were posted yet (if have, then ignore)

Looking at those dice, one thing I really wish they had done (if they're accurate) is colour the various 'special' sixers so they're grabbable with a glance. That'd be neat. Still, I'm looking forward to what they do with the d10s.

They said that as a box set, it has to squeeze into GW's release schedule and that is apparently quite full this year and next. It'll be competing for a spot. But it won't be anytime soon because they don't even know which models will be produced in plastic.

Some people interpreted their comments (which I don't have verbatim) as hints that the box might have plastic Reavers and somethign smaller (knights or Warhounds) but not Warlord titans, which would be separate resin releases. And that any resin releases would be fairly pricey. I think that means we should expect prices for Reavers and Warhounds to be similar to those for FW's 28mm Castellax and maybe even Thanatar models (or their Contemptor and Leviathan Dreadnoughts, with weapons sold separately).

Someone at FW said they'd take a second look at some rules based on observations from the game they played at the Weekender with 28mm models. Just another hint that the game isn't at the printing stage yet.

It had absolutely everything to do with kyussinchains' post, however, which was on topic.
