So, everything I knew about computers is well out of date as the last time I cared what was inside them was a decade ago.

Since yesterday I got a new budget one that seems to about equal the decade old top of the range one I had, i was wondering on playing with the components.
For info I got this
http://www.palicomp.co.uk/pc-systems/co ... d_292.html

The wireless card is moving across.

The soudblaster audigy 2 card - is it worth moving over?

The zip drive is going into storage in case its ever needed.

Leaving the IDE hard drive. I see I can plug this in, however the 80 gig is hardly needed on the machine. However is it worth sticking it in for the virtual memory to use? Does windows 7 still use a paging file? Will it be faster to stick it on this?

IDE drive data transfer rate is slow, your new comp has a SATA drive with a much faster data transfer rate. Win7 does use page file, but putting it onto a slow old IDE drive would probably be counter productive.

Motherboard for your new 1 has on-board 7.1 channel audio vs your old card's 6.1...but i know nothing about sound cards/chips as to whether it is better in any other way :P

I doubt anything you move across will improve the system. Other than the wireless card of course.

I bought an IDE enclosure to reuse older drives as a sort of super-backup. However, since you only have 1 drive in question, it might not be worth it.
