Looks like there's only going to be one this coming year, in Baltimore.

Mosc. what are you thoughts about a tournament?

I have mixed feelings on the matter.  It is a fun time and it is great to have GW support (tables, boards, prizes, trophies) not to mention the fact that everybody there treats us well.  For all the bad mouthing that goes on about GW, they do a lot of things right too.  I enjoy the great players that show up and bring their game, whether they be pro's or newbies.

However, the cost of going down to Baltimore is big because of the hotel prices and the turn-out was less than expected (still more than the previous year, but still...).

I suppose I'd be open to running it again, but I would want some better commitments from the people who say they are showing and would want at least 12 people to play.  Otherwise I have no motivation for it.

The timing of this year looks like it will avoid Mother's Day, but it will be competing with going back to college.  I'll probably give it a tentative 'yes' for now and see how things work out on the level of interest.

Given the distance and cost, I'd be far more likely to attend a tourney in Bethlehem, PA.

Baltimore is terrible choice for convention venues.  Historicon also is switching to Baltimore in 2010 for some bewildering reason; the dealers are NOT happy about this and had to be threatened with getting bumped from the reservations list for dealers if they choose not to attend; many players will however not go because of the venue change (myself and family will be amongst the missing).

games day is a fun day. but all that time and money to play 2 games is not worth it. i'd rather have a tourney in bethlehem or another up north if dave or dwarf supreme could organize it.

I have been working with Robert (Ork player from the tourneys) and Aaron (last GW tourney winner) who are going to set something up for early next year (January?) in the Baltimore area.  This is actually a good thing for Epic since there are a lot of players in that area and it is a workable drive for PA/NJ (3 hours).  I will unveil the trophy at that event.

Does this mean we get to beat you over the head and steal the trophy?

'cause that's how TEAM MARYLAND rolls.

That's going to be the only way you are going to get it.  You certainly won't be able to beat me in Epic...

Don't worry, I have every intention of having NEAT III in the Spring.

Maybe I can talk Dave into making a road trip with me down to PA for another "day of Epic" at The Portal.

Sad but probably true.  Although I do recall giving your pointy-earred degenerates quite a beating, you just happened to pay attention to incidental things (to the Orks) like objectives.

So I'm fine with the need for a little head-trauma if it earns me this vaunted cup.

Well, any event that you and Aaron come up with doesn't have to prescribe wholly (or even in part) to the Grand Tournament scenario.  If you want to have a HUUULLLK SMASSSSSH! kind of game then go right ahead.  Of course then you are dealing with other problems like Dark Eldar garrisoning...
