I have for the main page, however google had the old page as its number one link. It now goes to the new page from google in any case.

The pages will be removed over time, but it's not exactly a big priority. Both pages are merely a set of links to the files in any case.

You can redirect any URL with one rule, not just the homepage. Something like:

RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/wp
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://epic-uk.co.uk/wp/$1 [L,R=301]
