Sadly Most Americans don't remember ... but us old military, history, wargamers type do ... The one station has been showing that recent, but not so accurate(released at theaters about 8 or so years ago ?) Pearl Harbor movie with Ben Affleck on TV. But many watching probably don't understand the importance of the Pearl Harbor attack. To most of the younger generation, Vietnam is like ancient history ... let alone WWII or even WWI ... But some of us "old school" ... we remember ...

I consider myself part of that younger generation and I still remember. Of course I grew up on a steady diet of old WWII documentaries. Remembering the date isn't the problem, remembering what date it is today is.

Hard for me to forget. It occurred to me this morning that next year will be the 70th anniversary. I wonder how many Pearl Harbor vets are still alive?

I heard on the radio this morning that only 120 Vets are either 1) alive or 2) expected to be at Pearl Harbor today, can't remember which.

It was interesting teaching Yamamoto to a Navy class. Interesting how the officers I was teaching began -- pretty much in spite of themselves -- to understand Yamamoto's operational planning.

A smart and fairly tragic fellow. He had a very good appreciation of the way the war would likely go. Unfortunately, he at his pay grade, he was in charge of operations, not strategy or policy. More unfortunately, arguably, some of those who actually set policy dodged the noose at the end of WWII.
