Speaking of oddities in number progression, earlier today the time/date stamp (US convention) was:

01:02:03  04/05/06

You people using the European version don't get to do that until May 4.

Neener!  Neener! :p

Why do the Americans have to do everything backwards? :oops: I've been here 5 months and I STILL keep getting muddled about the date. Although funnily enough I got the hang of cars driving on the wrong side of the road pretty quickly...

Lord =I=

I don't know why we put the date backwards, although our military services do it day-month-year order. As far driving on the wrong side of the road, I'm with Hena: you have it backwards (although if the theory I heard is correct, I do understand why).

The other thing I find curious is that, as far as I know, we are the only country that still uses English (which you call Imperial) measurements. I know most of the conversions to metric, but it will never be second nature to me as inches, feet, yards, ounces (liquid), pints, quarts, gallons, pounds etc. are to me.

If you want to go by the number of countries (or the number of people) that drive on the right side of the road, we have it correct. Heck, even the Canadiens, your Commonwealth buddies, have it correct! ?:D

Yes, in the US Military, they do Day/Month/Year and use metric ... it's really just a better system ...

The only non-metric systems that make sense to me are:
a) Nautical miles, where the distance is a measurement of latitude, and
b) The Millis system of circular angles used in the Army, where 1 mill subtends 1 metre over a distance of 1km

The rest are simply anachronisms! :)

I still don't know how much I weight in stones :p.

Edit: When I was in England in 1999 for exchange student. I managed to make a store keeper frustrated. You see they had this sign that said prices in kilos as well as pounds. And I always went there to ask things in grams (mainly ground beef in 3-400 grams). Eventually they counted the weight for me in pounds and said, please ask this next time :D.

The British, the Japanese, Indians, Australians, etc.  AND the Maltese drive on the correct side of the road, the rest of you do it wrong ?:p
