Hi ya, Just looking through the players index and came across something that could possibly do with an upgrade at some point (nothing major, just a thought ![]() Having signed up a while ago, I cant remember how its laid out, but would it be possible to dictate options for the Country entry on listings? I ask since searching for "UK" on the list comes back with only about 4 options which I was dissapointed to see, but having done a basic search for epic, I see there are games who have their country down as UK, England, Scotland/UK etc so didnt get picked up in the original search. I wonder if Gamers could be missing possible opponents by this inonsistency. One to ponder in your free time anyway (sometime next century then... I know the feeling!) |

Thanks for the comment. This was something that I considered originally. The trouble is, that I could not do this for every country, so it would have had to have been only the major countries. And which ones are they? The easiest thing to do, would be to go through by hand and change all UK and US entries to one thing, but then what happens if someone searchs for England! ![]() It is a difficult problem, but I agree that there must be something that would make it easier. In the end I left, based on the fact that I would enter my local area more often, as I am not too worried about players in Liverpool as I am close to London. |

Hi! I have always thought a player index is one of those "crucial" resources we desperately need. While the present on is okay, it is still very small. Are there any thoughts on how to expand it? Primarch |

In what way? Do you mean getting more people registered, or changing it in some way? I would be interested in either, but changing the Index is a bit of a task as the existing records are of a particular format now. ![]() I would like more people involved, it would be great to get the majority of people in on it, but the only way that I can think of doing that is advertising it in a Fanatic way (Epic/Gothic mag, Fanatic web site, etc). Anyone got suggestions? |

Hi! I guess a propaganda campaign to get more people to register to it would be easier. I could do it on the net epic list, are there people who can do it on other lists? Primarch |

As for changing the data, I am pretty handy with the old SQL so I could probably do it very quickly if you want a hand? |

Could do, except that it does not use SQL. ![]() ![]() |

You use a text based database? How does that work with scalability issues? If you need an SQL server, then mail me off list, I have a spare one if you want a connection to it ![]() |

Scalability is really not an issue at this level. I can get access to various SQL servers, but I will keep it in mind, thanks. To be honest, the text version serves me fine. I simply backup the entire database in notepad, and I can see and alter very easily. It may not have the power of SQL, but it works for the current needs. |

Lol, if only FTP programs could automatically determine the type... some look at the last three chars of the file name but really, there has to be a better way! |

I use CuteFTP, which will actually autodetect quite well. |

Hi! Having used both, I agree with Tom, that WS FTP is somewhat better, at least I have had less problems with it. Primarch |
