Post subject:  Youtube?

Happened to look back on some older posts and the embedded youtube content is kaput. New stuff as well (tested) What gives with that? Obviously we're tripping something up regarding formatting.

So say I have this video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K9q70zCJYBc

We'd (probably) want this tag, no?
Code:
[youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K9q70zCJYBc[/youtube]

However we get this instead (at least blank on everything I view it on)

Sure I am holding it wrong :sos

Possibly just the forum code doesn’t work any more. IIRC CS couldn’t get the latest version working with the content back when it was updated and had to keep it on an earlier one.

The stuff in the code block is http and not https; there's a good chance it's being blocked as non-secure content on a secure page.

Edit: And it seems that the youtube tag doesn't work at all once you change it to https.

yeah that's the blank box above. Sad as the embedded player was a good feature. Not sure why it no go anymore.
Glad it's not just me then.

To be clear, I think the forum software is still continuing to work as intended when you use a http link to youtube. The problem is most browsers will no longer render http content on a https page. So the forum software is creating the space for the video, and trying to put it there, but your browser is refusing to let it do the second part.

However, the forum software is not recognising https links at all.

Not that I'm any sort of expert, and I could be way off-base. However, I had a similar problem with a forum I manage (using Vanilla forums). In my case, the problem was fixed by updating to the most recent software.

A brief google around seems to indicate that phpBB may have settings where you can manually indicate how BB tags are translated, which would allow https links to start working with minimal effort. However, fixing pre-existing http links would probably require them to be corrected on a case-by-case basis..

Sorry if I am a bit late to this party..... The boards are running an older version of the forum software, which harkens from a time before https was standard for sites and YouTube specifically. The BB code has a rule for converting the YouTube tab to a clickable URL but that seems to render the tag unknown to the system and therefore unresolved. Although including the https seems to make the URL visible.

Testing with https, no YT BB code tags.....

EDIT - That seems a workable solution right now, just paste the YT link in as raw text, no tags at all, and make sure it includes the https. The boards just convert it to a clickable link.

Yeah direct links work, just sad the embedded player doesn't work. Many posts were done with the assumption of the preview being the context enough for the post. Beshert is beshert tho (it is what it is)

Thanks CS
