If someone says "Hey, Epic, I used to play that' where on this site do I send him to not scare him off?

I'm currently sending people straight to the rules compedium thread, but that might be a bit scary for someone completly new to epic armageddon.

What about the NetEA & EUK websites?

Agree on sending them to the NetEA/EpicUK websites. The NetEA site has a convenient link to here.

Yes, way too scary in my opinion.

The site Dave suggests is probably best, but it also is worth linking people to the Net Epic board if they're coming from a Space Marine background, so that they can choose which they prefer.

I'd suggest Warmaster Nice's/Tuffskull's personal sites so they can get excited and drool all over their miniatures first ;)

What about posting sticky threads to each of the forums for games played here? The threads should be marked up something obvious, eg "NetEpic New Players Start Here!"

The posts in those threads should have all the downloads links for rules etc. Also, additional materials such as MagnusIlluminus' excel spreadsheet - viewtopic.php?f=14&t=24911&start=15 - would be very handy. I also think if we can make up decent video tutorials these should also go in the thread, after all, a video showing a new player how to play might be less intimidating than just leaving them to sift through the rulebooks.

Probably an idea also to make these threads non-postable except to admin, thereby keeping the thread "clean" and concise, with updates only when other helpful materials become available.

What do you think?

Send them to Exodus Wars. That will save them quite a bit of grief and GW rage.

Yep, that's the logical site. Has links to other areas of interest.

That sounds like an awesome idea. I remember it was reading the old articles about army selection that helped me to think about epic in a more coherent way.

I also think that this is a very good idea.

I don't think that it's possible to prevent others from posting in threads though, this permission can be set for boards, but not for individual threads as far as I know. Just compiling the information, and then keeping the thread locked would, however, achieve the same effect.

I think it's important for new/prospective players to be sent to a page with EpiComp photos.

Something else just occurred to me. Given that I'm forever asking for advice, I'd like to see a video by one of the many incredible pro-painters we have here giving a tutorial as to how they paint 6mm miniatures. Anyone up for this?

It goes without saying that I approve of this idea :-)
