Agreed, although personally I give it a softer initial sylable, as in 'Khan'.

Ok, I've got the footage more or less edited (Spielberg, Scorsese, prepare for retirement).

But how the hell am I supposed to record a commentary with this monstrosity outside my window?!! :{[]

Ok, it's done & posted to youtube! I've still got a battle report to post for my campaign, so once that is done I'll post this up properly there.

Part one of the Battle Report:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EBC8OtDxYO4

And part two:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2xCEi7eUvpA

The song "Hero" by Ministry should have been in the end credits but it meant youtube were going to block it in some countries. So I had to remove the track and now there is silence!

C&C very much welcomed. And I've given you all plenty of ammunition, so go for it!

A couple of notes - I've since discovered that my camera has a stabiliser so there shouldn't be as much shake in future reports! Also, plan on getting a proper tripod to remove the need for so many handheld shots. Also going to invest in a multiple LED torch to help light the board... The dolly shots (which should give you a laugh) are still a headache though!

oh god the red! slide wipes! shaky hand cam! mysterious green lights! hyper-compressed soundtrack!

I'm impressed you got Sean Connery to commentate though!

the soundtrack was a bit frustrating. I'm already missing chunks of the spectrum (thanks steel work!) so it was really quite an effort to puzzle out what you were saying.

Otherwise, yeah, keep making them!

Like Maddoc said, keep making 'em!

You'll get slicker as you go on :)

I liked the joy when the shadowsword got toasted; "Watch him burrrrrn!"

Cheers

Haha, thanks chaps! Glad you enjoyed the humour Reedar, there isn't much but I did try and throw in a few light-hearted moments!

Sorry you had trouble making me out Maddoc, I'm aware of the fact that I sometimes speakveryquicklywhichisabitofa Glaswegian trait. Also, getting the balance when doing the commentary was a lot more difficult than I anticipated. I do have a good quality mic and a pop shield to try and limit those "Puh"'s. Part of the problem was that I was trying to match what I was saying to the image (damn that laser pen which seemed like a great idea at the time) which in turn meant that it was difficult to concentrate on maintaining focus on keeping the levels equal.

I hope you're right Reedar, practice may not make me perfect, but I'm aiming for it to make me competent at least!

Enjoyed the report, visuals good and some shots I liked, like the drawing of the chaos cards and the beer can explosion popping in and out.

Had a hard time with the audio though, no problem with the accent, but audio overall seemed to cut a lot and was generally 'choppy'.

Like what I am seeing!

Regarding Audio: I expect this is due to turning your head from the mic when filming. Try with a headset perhaps or record in post production?

Personal Suggestion: Showing the initial deployment took too long IMO. I think the series (you're doing more right? :D) would be enhanced with a simple graphic of the battlefield terain and where you're placing what units and cut to close up stills of the models when discussed.

1. That'll help the "shaky cam" view we have
and
2. It's hard to get a sense for the entire army deployment when you're that zoomed in to the board.

great stuff and keep it coming!

Cheers for the feedback and positive comments guys!

I'm going to get someone to help me sort the sound. Believe it or not, it was done in post with a mic that a couple of people in the know say is a good one! I want this problem solved before I do more reports which I do hope to do in the future (though not every time I play as it is pretty disruptive to play).

I'm hoping to eliminate shakiy cam both by the discovery of a stabilizer in the camera and by investing in a tripod. A big problem was a tiny tripod which meant we had to do a significant amount of handheld work. Agree completely that the looking at the battlefield in particular took too long. Hopefully this will be solved once I have the tripod as I should just be able to cover that section in a 10 second pan across the battlefield.

I also hope to speed up going through the deployment section and think those are great suggestions Jimmy!

I'm fairly happy with the can barrages and then in the second report the use of the laser pen to create firing effects. Yes, I know it's a bit cheesy but I think it's important to try and put some movement and visual flourishes in to the video; after all, it's hard to get any movement into the film when filming miniatures!

Been having a long think about this, obviously taking on board comments to date. Think I may have a Titan battle in a few weeks, mostly to see if I can correct the errors of this video and to see if people think the format is correct before getting involved in larger battles.

Meantime, while I chew over the problems, any other criticisms and suggestions are more than welcomed. I want to be able to put together a package that the community can enjoy and be proud of.

I've just discovered that part of the problem with the sound happened in converting from Microsoft Movie Maker to MP4. Very annoying. Lots of experimenting now to see how to avert this problem in future!

I've tryed to watch the whole Vid. I don't finish it because it is very hard to understand what you're saying.

Beside the (quite understandble indeed) accent which is a little bit unfamiliar to me, it is the quality of the sound. It has been mentioned although before, but I had a very hard time to understand what you're saying. Also deployment is to long for my taste. I've watched only to minute 7, first vid.

For non-native speakers it is a hard time to understand.
