Why not do it as a section for the moment? That way we can refer people there and figure out what a good URL would be for the actual website. That seems like the sort of thing it'd be good to have a broad opinion on.

That would be fine, except Googlr punishes sites with too many redirects to a single page as it views it as 'just not cricket' (my paraphrasing)... each domain name is also not free.

The order of battle here:
- sort out the site behind the scenes (1-2 weeks)
- set up a section/site within TacWarNet, and evaluate it with you guys
- discuss seperating it out

Just to say CS and I have spoken on this issue and IMO we have a solid plan of action that addresses redundancy and the important bits. Some minor comments on points of debate upto now:

IP:

For lots of legal reasons, IMO we would actually probably be fine to use derivative trademarks, and in fact legally we could probably use something even more clearly associated with GW provided there is no potential for confusion (easy to do). However this is of course not the whole story. The truth is, GW has in the past chosen to challenge such things. They may have been wrong to have done so, and indeed there may even have been stronger evidence of infringement in those cases that do not apply to us (e.g. likelihood of confusion, presence of a money making scheme, trademark strength/status, evidence of previous enforcement of rights), but that is not the point. The fact is, would we actually defend against such behaviour, and do we even want to provoke GW in the first place? I don't think so, so for me it is moot: irrespective of the "correct" legal situation, we should avoid using "epic" in the name by itself.

Images are not just trademarks but creative works, and derivatives should really not be used without permission.

There are in fact some NetEA-like domains available (e.g. net-ea.org), we should be safe from GW and indeed any of the similar organisations if we use those (e.g. north east texas economic alliance). We make sure the disclaimers are clear, and that we do not use any derivative images. In short, we do the right thing by the spirit AND letter of the law.

Experimental lists:

Although I have them up on my demo, I don't feel strongly about their inclusion. I had envisioned that ACs would upload these and the main reason for having them was actually to encourage ACs to track versions of lists better. But this is fairly ambitious, and really just a benefit to the established community and not to new people. Even if we still wanted this to happen it could just as easily be done by uploading them here.
