I do find it slightly irritating to go from, say, Tau to guard boards, rather than one level up then down its two.

Any chance of all the races being in one section and all the rules stuff in the other (so shifting guard, eldar and marines)?

It is still true, to a point. The HQ area has the attention of the various ACs, while the Rules section is more for fan lists. For example, the Dark Eldar discussion, and Tyranid Phase Three lists are in the fan section for this reason. I am wary about blurring the distinction, as I think that things are already difficult for people to determine what is official and what is not.

I agree with Chris the distinction is basically irrelevant now. We have Neal and others accumulating the changes from the guard and other lists where no champ exists  (or is just absent), so really who cares anymore? The Guard review has happened with no AC in sight.  Sorry but the champion system is no more than an artifact of a dead system. Without someone in overall charge appointing and co-ordinating it has probably caused more problems than if it hadn't even existed in the first place. eg Lists left stalled because the champs wander off with no word and people being too polite to just step in and take up the ropes. We can use it where it is still useful but certainly it shouldn't be the basis for division on these boards I think.  Lists shouldn't be shunted to one side just because there is no AC. I'd get everything reordered with only the more marginal lists in a fan section.

Edit - I would be supportive of something like rpr's idea  in the next post below.

My proposition:
One main level "Epic Armageddon" with following sections:
* One section for each "race" (SM, IG, Orks, Eldar, Chaos, ...)
* One for battlereps (now they are randomly in race section or maybe not)
* One for misc questions (i.e. no new rule ideas)
* One for new rules or changes to existing (generic rules, not army specific)

(there is so many sections with just 1-2 topics, that is exceeding..)

And then un-pin some topics (for example in Epic Rules/Epic Armageddon)

The status of each race/army coould be written to pinned 'status of this army'
in each army section, to clarify how official various race lists are...

I'm with TRC.

Official, and unofficial debate goes on in both board areas.

Just merge 'em.

rpr has a nice idea with a dedicated forum for batreps.

To be honest i feel I should be sticking my batreps (well, unlikely to be any for a couple of months now) in the wiki.

By 'lists left stalled' you mean AMTL, since of the remaining lists developed here, the two Chaos ones are completed and the others still have active ACs.

I can see what you are saying, but I do believe that the AC system, where it works, is a very valuable one. In fact, I would like to appoint and sort ACs where they are not visible to ensure that all lists have one. Where ACs do wander off, then this is something that I seriously object to (is it really so tough to let people know at the very least?), but this is a different issue.

The distinction is not just between those developed by AC and those not, but represents those lists which are being worked on for 'official EA status'.

While the various sub-lists and such (for example Phase III Tyranids) are great, the fact is that they are totally unofficial, and I feel that there should be a distinction between them and the 'standard' Phase IV list.

I am happy to be convinced otherwise, and I do like the suggested structure - and the idea of BatReps in the Wiki even more.

Just my opinions. Thanks.

It'd be nice if there was a way to appeal to the ERC for such lists to gain experimental status, where warranted.

I'm another that finds the current folder structure confusing. But I tend to follow threads in only a few of the lists being developed. I don't play often enough or have the time to follow the developments of every single playlist.

I can understand that need to distinguish between official-GW and fan lists. Just wish there was simpler way.

Cheers

James

I think the official/unofficial difference fairly moot. If everyone is testing a variant not the core, well tough luck for that. I think the best way to reflect it it to only pin key threads for official lists and leave the fan ones to sink or swim on the strength of their contributions. Perhaps also with a 'summery' pinned thread where variants were referenced.

So for example in the Guard board you would have a pinned thread for the Steel Legion (if necessary), a pinned change for the Siegers (if necessary) and the rest would go in a pinned thread 'variant lists' containing links to stuff like the drop troops, armoured regiment etc etc.

Currently we have the following areas
Epic Armageddon
EpiComms EA Rules Amendments
EA Adeptus Astartes
EA Imperial Guard
EA Eldar
Aeronautica Imperialis
Epic 40K
NetEpic
Other Epic and Titan Games
EA AMTL
EA Black Legion
EA Eldar
EA The Lost and Damned
EA Necrons
EA Orks
EA Tau
EA Tyranids
Army Champions Lounge

(I never noticed we had two Eldar forums)

Meta structure wise two areas with subdivisions would be fine. Rules gathering together the, well rules, and EA races/armies with a forum for each one.

So
Epic Rules
-Epic Armageddon
-EpiComms EA Rules Amendments (merge the first two?)
-Aeronautica Imperialis
-NetEpic
-Other Epic and Titan Games (merge with Epic 40k, list under it topic the various games)

Epic Armageddon Army development
-Adeptus Astartes
-Adeptus Mechanicus and Titan Legions
-Chaos (Combined Marines and Cultists)
-Eldar (note underneath includes spiky Eldar)
-Imperial Guard (add 'and Navy')
-Necrons
-Orks
-Tau
-Tyranids
-Army Champions Lounge

Slightly fewer forums, tidy's up those without much posting and easier to navigate. Discussing rules go here, discussing armies, units, lists etc go here.
