If interested, please email Nick at NUGaming, an independent GW stockist, and ask what he has left of his limited stock.

His email is nick.umanski@nugaming.com

If you do make an order, please do the honourable thing and tell him that David Candlish referred you, david.candlish@convergys.com.  He sponsored my Blood Bowl tournament last year and I want him to know it was worth it  :)

With regards to the "Old PDFs" thread I've started this poll to see what people want to be put up on the SG website.

Since Jervis hasn't provided any info on exactly what they want and reworking all Primarch's material would be a mammoth task perhaps it would just be better to rework some of the things people want to see again the most.

If you remember particular articles please provide as much info as possible (WD issue no. etc.)

Cheers!  :)

How close are we to getting some of these articles?

Cheers

Whoops! Sorry about not following up on this recently. -I have had some computerproblems and a bunch of other stuff on my mind lately.
Basically I got a mail from Jervis saying that if we send the WD articles in at a steady pace -something like an article every week or two -they will go up on the site accordingly.

From this poll I suggest that we start with some Battlereports.

Primarch: Is it possible to split up the WD compendiums and rework them into 72 dpi or do the bunch need to be re-scanned? Alternatively I don't mind re-making some of the pdfs from scratch (though it will probably prove a bit too much of an overwhelming task to re-do everythig! :p )

Cheers! :)

Finally had the time to loook at the PDFs.
A 13 pages battlereport weighs in at 4,5 mb if I simply cut them out of the original compilation PDFs.
Is this too big do you think?

The pro's are that it is really easy to do thus more articles can go up on the Fanatic site faster.

The con is of course the size making it a bit problematic for people with slow internet connections...

Alternatively I'll just have to re-write the text and add the pics from the original scans. This would make the files much smaller but also take a considerable ammount of time.

Any thoughts on this?

Cheers! :)

Can't you get programs that can read text from images, thus saving you rewriting all the text...?  ???

I think I got one with the software bundle for my scanner but I've never tried it. Guess it's worth a try. :)

Yep, they are called OCR (Optical Character Recognition), IIRC.

You're right. I've tested the program but it will only read .tiff images. This means that I have to take a copy of the original image from the PDF, run it through Photoshop and convert it to Tiff, get it into the OCR program, extract the text, set up the new document in InDesign and finally save everything as a PDF again :p  It works but it is a bit more work than I expected :-:

Cheers! :)

Indeed  :;):
I've just begun work on the oldest battlereport I could find. It's SM1 Dark Angles vs. Orks the battle includes two gargants, a Warlord, two Warhounds and a Capitol Imperialis.
Should be finished in a couple of days if nothing interrupts.

Next up I was thinking of doing one of the battle reports from the release of Titan legions?!?

Cheers! :)

Hi!

I'ved used OCR extensively and it translates the text and pictures to an editable format like a word file for example. This however is not a "copy" of the actual article, although the information may be the same as the format changes.

As of this moment I have ALL old rulebooks and WD articles prior to epic 40k.

I am in the process of obtaining MOST of the Citadel Journals with epic articles.

Regardless of poll result, I will commence the rescanning at a lower resolution in July.

Let me know what you guys need.

I'm afraid no progress has been made recently to this project due to quite a bit of work at school lately (Finishing off some big projects before the exams) :(
Final assignment is to be presented next week, then I have to complete the Portfolio website (Epic section will also have to wait for now) by mid June and then it is time for the exams. Then with Roskilde Festival and later hollidays it will at least be mid July before I have time to get any work done :{

Cheers!

Hi!

Like I said, I will commence the project and will let you know when its completed. Hopefully Jervis will be clear on what he needs by then.
