- So, what are you guys using for Marine Scout Snipers? ? I tried taking the heavy weapons guys and removing the missile launder magazine, along with a little filing. They look okay, but not as good as I had hoped. - Should I revert to the old plan whereby IG troopers were fielded as SM scouts? - Also, what do you think about using the old IG bikes for scout bikes? In case you are wondering, my home-grown chapter is intended to be scout-heavy, so I'm looking for ideas. |

This may not be any help, but I'm waiting to see what (or if) G/W produces (any). I'm not big on converting 6mm Infantry ... I can barely see as it is! |

Neal, So far I have been using my Ratlings for any snipers I've needed and I haven't used SM and IG snipers together so only one type has been used. Here are some ideas: - Use GZG NAC proxies. There's a guy with a cloak that has a remarkable resemblance to the 28mm GW SM sniper. Add in a C&C Machine gun if you want a longer sniper-looking weapon. Alternately you could use a little plasticard or plastic stock to approximate the rifle. - Base your snipers specially on pennies or other distinctive bases. - Use the second edition Eldar Guardians (the one with the long laser rifle) and do a head swap. - Use the Eldar ranger model and do a head swap. - Take any SM models (including the basic trooper) and add in a C&C Machine gun if you want a longer sniper-looking weapon or alternately you could use a little plasticard or plastic stock to approximate the rifle. Shalom, Maksim-Smelchak. |

One thought that crosses my mind is why do you need a model at all? Now before you think me crazy follow me for a moment first. What if you took a small piece of plastic about 3/4th the size of a man as your start? Mount a suitable looking barrel on one end. Maybe even use small wire to make bipod etc. Now mount this ?sniper? onto a penny with some texture on it. Cut a small section off of a used dryer sheet. Use white glue to ?mold? the sheet over our ?blob sniper? into a shape you like. Maybe even simulate the head with a small raise in the correct spot etc. Add some further texture on your new found ?camo netting?. Leave the barrel sticking out of the netting of course. Paint it with camo colors, but make them slightly different so you can see the ?figure? slightly without having a full figure there. Put two or three on a penny and Scout Snipers you will have. Make variations using legs from broken models or small roundish beads of plastic for heads sticking out. Etc. Not the best, but with some paint might look good. dafrca |

I'll have to admit, dafrca, that is a very cool idea ! ?Those are good ideas too, Maksim, especially the GZG ESU Naval Infantryman with the cape, just like the old USSR Naval Infantry use to wear. ?Good thinking guys ! ? ![]() |

I think an IG guardsman would be a great model to work from, using your suggestion, dafrca. Cut off the gun and trim down the base, leaving a roughly accurate pose. Cut and cock the leg. Put the "gilly suit" over him and attach the gun so it sticks out. |

Yeah, great ideas Dafrca and Neal, I think I'll try something along those lines for my IG when I come to do them.... |

I was thinking about Snipers this last weekend at CONQUEST. The IG force could have really used some! Shalom, Maksim-Smelchak. |

I'm thinking of buying some IG infantry, to go with my impulse purchase of some super-heavy tanks and manticores. Since the last time I bought Epic stuff was back in the early 90's when Adeptus Titanicus was still about, I don't actually know what stuff I should be getting. I know I'll need some infantry, but I've noticed that Epic 40k infantry are on long stands rather than the square stands of Space marine troops. Assuming this is just a cosmetic change, what is the difference between the old SM imperial guard figures and the new Epic 40k figures? Is the unit mix on the sprues different? How's the quality of the SM stuff compared to the E:40k miniatures? Heck, can I even get plastic Epic stuff any more? I suppose after that, I'd be getting at least a tank platoon or so, and some transports to make my troops into an armoured company, but at the moment, I'm more worried about the infantry stands, since they seem to be the hardest to get? |

Nope, no plastic IG available, at least not from GW. ![]() ![]() The new E-A IG minis will be metal. |

Damn that went wrong... ![]() Oh well the post was meant to be: Are you sure *ALL* IG inf. will be metal? I think I read something about the old plastic sprues being redone? Or am I just halucinating? |

Basic infantry for all the armies will be plastic. The sprues will be half the size of the E40K ones & not contain the "specialist" pieces - these will be cast in metal. The Valhallan infantry from E40K are far superior in detail from the SM "codex grey" pieces. However, I'm no great fan of the Catachan sculpts that come on the E40K sprue. |

You can get the e40k era sprues through GWUS Mail Order no problem I went a little sick and got 25 IG sprues earlier this year...but then I looked sane compared to some of us here didnt I...Hmmm? Then again, I have used/traded almost all of them by now, so maybe I didnt get enough after all on second thoughts.... ![]() |

Hi! As Tas mentioned you can still get some plastics through, GWUS mail order, dont know how long the stocks will last though. As mentioned, new sprues will be basic troops with specialist in metal. As far as the game systems go, the bases dont make any difference, so base them as you like. Primarch |
