What do you prefer the forgeworld or GW, basilisk?
I'm quite undecided on this one, there just seems to be something not quite right about the new GW one. How doe the FW basilisk compare witht the E40k basilisk for scale?

The same for the Manitcore.
I just really don't like the Fw one for some reason it just looks a bit chunky.

The FW Basilisks that I got were incredibly fragile. There was so much excess moulding on them that it was a real pain to clean them up without damaging the thinner parts. When I start my IG army (its inevitable!), I am probably going to get both Basilisks and Manticores from GW, although I quite like the FW manticore too. :p

Hi!

Is there really a difference between one being metal and the other resin?

The metal ones are. of course, more gameworthy and ham-handed gamer resistent.

The FW ones have some detail that the metal ones do not...

Overall, I prefer the metal which is sturdier for those occasional accidental drops...  :;):

P.S.
For a diorama, I like the FW ones better. They can get some superb detailing with resin.

I was thinking about the styles-

The new fanatic armageddon pattern with enclosed crew compartment as opposed to the traditional style forgeworld version.

Then for the manticores the FW version has a turret with chunky side mounted rockets as opposed the GW one with rockets on a rack on the top.

Well, I kinda like the old basilisks, the new one looks kinda funny.  As for the manticore, well, the old epic40k manticore rockets were too fiddly for my taste.  Took me forever to get the freakin things to set on the rails.  So I prefer the FW ones there.

my 2cents,

Have all versions from SM1 on ... and all F/W Epic.  If I had to do it again ... F/W stuff is too fragile for most "hard corps" gaming, save for the TAU, I would not have bought most of the F/W Epic ... I really don't know why they even started to make F/W Epic ?  ???

I was never really happy about the e40k manticore (re-used for E:A); the FW version is nice but I still have a soft spot for the old SM-era version.
As for Basilisks I can only agree with all that have been said: The GW version is more gameworthy but the FW one is definitely better looking.

For scale purposes the FW basilisk looks a bit smaller; the tracks are thinner as is the barrel but when you line the e40k basilisk up next to it it is really all the stowage and ekstra armour plating that makes it seem bigger.

Cheers!

I never cut the flash out between the F/W Basilisk, Medusa, etc. railing. ?I look at it as armor plating ... dead crews can't fire ... ?Plus it makes them less fragile for gaming purposes. ?In retrospect the F/W Epic is generally redundant and too fragile. I made a poor choice in starting to collect them ... oh well ... ? ? :L

Hi!

I wonder if the quality of FW is going down lately since my experience with FW stuff is quite good and they are pretty robust.

Are they putting out crappier stuff lately?

No, I don't think so.  I have at least one pack of everything Epic that F/W makes and the quality is generally very good ... but many of the smaller barrels are too flimsy ... and the Falcon and Nightspinner are an accident waiting to happen.  At least the G/W metals are pretty solid and resilient, IMO.

On looks alone, I much prefer the FW variants of both the Manticore and Basilisk. I really dont like the enclosed crew compartment Basilisk, and the 'missile rack' Manticore has never been a favourite. If I get any, they will be FW.
