So I think most of us know there's a Tau list, and Tau items from Forgeworld. So it came up in the SG board that in 40k the Tau have human forces made up of the survivors and descendants of Guard sent to fight the Tau or on worlds the Tau took from the Empire. So I'm wondering if there's any indication of whether the Tau dislike of hand to hand is physical or cultural - from their 40k statlines, I'd assume it's cultural. At any rate, what I'm thinking of doing is using the old IG sprues to represent humans incorporated into the Tau. I suppose that, given long enough, they'd simply start being armed and trained as the Tau are, as I don't see them bothering to waste their time on crude Imperial manufactories, except to produce small things like sentinels or bikes. It should provide some visual diversity from legions of Fire Warriors, and some nice background opportunities. The old Guard also look more sci-fi with their smooth armour plates and visored/full helmets. Anyways, I'm pretty much set on this, and will probably use the rules for fire warrior stands, and maybe convert some of the Forgeworld vehicles to have humans popping out of the turrets. At any rate, I was just wondering what you all think would be suitable proxies for the bikes, roughriders and assault guard to be. The sentinels and robots can be crisis and broadside battlesuits. I was thinking maybe stealth suits for the bikes as there weren't any particular rules for their stealthiness in the list. Thoughts, especially on background plausibility and basing? I might get the occasional pack of FW infantry, or more likely just expand when the Tau are actually released by SG. But vehicles/aircraft are a definate, if I ever get around to going to the battlebunker. Probably no Mantas or Orcas at the time, though. |

The Tau Codex explains in detail why "the little Grays" stay away from Close Combat... of course with their superior weapons systems, why waste time with HTH!!! ![]() I have all the Epic F/W Tau with the new stuff on the way. Someone else talked about Tau/IG interface for gaming purposes... But I can't remember who? ? As for me, I like the Tau & Kroot and will eventually field a complete army (without humies!). ![]() |

Fair enough. I vaguely remembered the Tau codex saying something about how they did actually fight it out in brutal combat amongst themselves but then the ethereals showed up and made peace; but I've lost my codex. Well, time to go get some of these famed Forgeworld minis I've been hearing about. ![]() |

Yes, some of the Tau Codex is in W/D issues too. And even though they are a bit pricy, the F/W Epic Tau & Kroot are nice ... ![]() |

Hi! Do the Tau have warp travel? If they don't, how can they be a viable empire? The Imperium could just virus bomb their planets and wait a century or two then taking over. Primarch. |

I believe they ally themselves with races that do... and that's how they get around. ? Of course I could just ask one next time they land in my backyard... ![]() |

Technically, if the Imperium in the warp are like irate manatees, and the Eldar are like dolphins (angry dolphins), then the Tau are like balls - you pop them under and they bounce up a while away. Which is why their Empire is small, but they can defend it and get places if given long enough. Say, L4, maybe a stupid question, but you don't have some shots of painted ones? |

Hi! But can the Tau realistically hold off a major Imperial incursion? Tau cannot defeat the Imperium due to size, but the Imperium could certainly snuff the Tau by sheer weight of numbers. Primarch |

Don't worry Primarch, the Tau will suddenly develop multitude allied hordes of Demiurg, or yet another hive Fleet tendril will divert attention, or a Chaos thingy will pop up and cement the Imperium and the Tau - at least for the duration of the crisis. An it has been hinted that the Eldar consider the Tau to have great potential, and the pointy ears usually know what they're doing... Unless, of course, Tau sales are doing poorly, and the fate of the Squats hangs on their head. but don't worry, like the Squats they'll still live on at Epicomms and a hundred other websites and on a million gaming boards. |

The Tau empire is in the eastern fringe, outside of the range of Astronomican. That's why Imperium will be forced to use calculated jumps in Tau territory and won't be able to travel as fast as within the range of Astronomican. This means the Imperium has effectively lost the ability to bring the superior numbers to bear on the Tau. And besides, they are more concerned with a couple of Hive fleets, Necrons, Mr. Abbadon... |

As I said before, a Tau, Eldar, Imperial and Squat alliance would send the rest of the riffraff running ! ![]() |

Hi! Good point about the astronomicon, that would certainly be a limiting factor. Primarch |

As Tau don't have psyker nor the "navigator gene" they can't enter warp space but whith using computers and AI they can "skim the surface" of the warp and by so they are 1/3 as fast as there imperial counterparts when it comes to "warp travell" they are much safer, hope that made some sense... |
