Hi All,

MiniWars was in a bit of a state and long overdue an overhaul... So I rebuilt it. This time around it's much more focussed and a whole lot easier to manage, so I might actually succeed in keeping it up-to-date. Its goals are:

1.) To help new blood take the first step towards playing Epic and getting involved in the community.
2.) To help players find the models they need, and to help the vendors that play a part in keeping the community allive sell models. There are over 400 GW models listed and over 400 proxies in the database.
3.) To provide some inspiration in the form of painted armies.

There's one piece of functionality that is under development - the wargame player finder. More news to come on that.

Finally, there's some fantastic artwork by Stugmeister to give it a bit of polish.

Any comments, suggestions or criticism - please feel free to send my way!

Fantastic! Thanks for all your work on this.

I found it invaluable when I got back in to epic, and still hunted for things on the old version quite recently.

Regarding your second goal, do you have any plans to go beyond simply providing links to eBay and taccomms for buying old GW miniatures? Like maybe the eBay link could be a link to the results of an eBay search for a specific model.

Also, I’m wondering what can be done so us small time makers can get a part of the action. Beside my own selfish interest (to try to hawk my space elf objectives) I have to believe that there are people out there that would be willing to 3D print for pay, but there really isn’t an online site that connects printers with buyers.

I look forward to updates on the player finder. The site looks great and you obvious put a ton of work into it. The individual model pages are exactly what is needed and I certainly appreciate all of you efforts.

Thanks for the feedback, I'm glad you've found it useful!

I probably won't go as far as adding eBay search parameters, as I would view it as uneccessarily overcomplication. After the first bloated iteration of the site, I'm strictly adhering to KISS principles (keep things simple, stupid).

What I should do is add Facebook trading groups, but... Not my bag. If somebody wants to tell me what they are I'll add them.

I'm all for adding small time makers. As long as they don't pop up for a month and then disappear, leaving behind duff information or dead links. I know you don't fit that profile :) Do you have an online catalogue / contact I can link to? Even a Google Doc would work. Or I suppose I could just link to an email address. The site is protected by Cloudflare, so there's no issue of something scraping your address. As for print services, it's an interesting one. I do include Shapeways files that have stood the test of time. I wanted to add other 3D files, but of course one of the attractions of such files is the models often closely resemble GW models, to the extent GW might take issue. I suppose I could include Thingiverse files that have also stood the test of time, and link to those who provide printing services for those files. I would need people to come forward and let me know they provide the service, as I'm not currently aware of any.

Nice of you to say, sir! I hope it can play a part in keeping things ticking over around here.

Cool. Submitted a couple of proxies. I tried to send a comment with the first one but got an error, I resubmitted and it worked but think without the comment.

I might as well mention it here: I think it’s worth explaining a bit the Tyranid biotitan situation. You have the GW hierodule listed as the official model for hierodule and the GW hierophant for hydraphant. Both can make sense as the Titans we now give those names to were bumped down a size when FW released the 40K hierodule. You could include both interpretations but right now it looks a little odd as you have hierodule as the “old” unit (hierodule), the hierophant as the “new” unit (hydraphant) and nothing for the hierophant unit(even though it’s the one that actually has two official models you could use).

Thanks to anyone who has submitted proxies. I have processed all but one (which I will do when I have time to process the image).

@Kyrt - Thanks, I will double check the comment part of the form.

Yes, the Tyranid situation is very confusing. I was just going on the names assigned to the models when they were produced. So to confirm, either of the original models could be used for the Hierophant? I find it doesn't help that the models look almost the same, and have similar names!

I meant to say - just for a bit of fun I'm offering special Stugmeister embellished mugs to the first three armies selected to feature in the Miniatures Showcase. Armies will be selected on painting and photograph quaility. The idea is to provide inspiration for people, and motivation to get some really top quaility photos of their work.

Yes that’s right, the larger of the two models (originally sold as a Hierophant) could be used as a modern Hydraphant, whilst the smaller of the two models (originally sold as a Hierodule) could be used as a modern Hierophant.

What we now call a hierodule doesn’t really match either of them, but equally confusing is that the hydraphant is described like a dominatrix but without the synapse symbiont thing.

Nice to see the site getting an overhaul, looks fantastic.

I'm curious as to where the submissions for the proxies are coming from though? I was surprised to see my own work having been uploaded, yet I've not submitted anything.

@RexHavoc - cheers!

Proxies and proxy photos are taken from information and images I already had, or trawled the Internet and other sources for. In the case of images, they are the best for any given model that I'm aware of. Incidently, if there's anything of yours on MiniWars that you want me to take down, I shall certainly oblige :)

Ah no bother, I just wondered where they'd come from. It was curiosity, not a problem. If it helps direct people to good alternatives, its all good!

I don't know how you feel about linking to websites outside of your own, but one helpful resource that I think you could include is the Epic Armageddon catalog over on Stuff of Legends:

http://www.solegends.com/citcat2005ussc ... 046-02.htm

That is the best record available of what models were released for the very last official version of Epic.
