Hello, I just wanted to some tips on introducing new players to Epic. With all the special rules, different unit abilities and nuances of assaults it can be a bit overwhelming. So I was wondering how people have done it in the past and if they ignore certain rules or interactions?

I have IG, SM and Nids that I can field, I was planning on using IG and Nids.

Go through the Training Scenarios:

Either that, or a 1K game of IG vs IG would be pretty good. I'd start with Marines and IG before 'nids vs either.

I would make a couple of lists that were very close and include titans, every one wants to play with titans the first time.

There was a thread about the introducing new players in this forum area a few months ago. Worth looking up for some good advice.

But def agree - nids wouldn't be my first pick for new players. Minigeddon (1k points with no flyers) guard vs marines is no bad place to start. Can use the marines with chaos marine rules too if you want to avoid the complexities of the ATSKNF rules.

Have a box full of mk2 marine infantry, plastic tanks and titans that I was planning to donate to make trial armies for new players that they can keep. You are welcome to them if you'd like to build them for that purpose. We should organize a night to go through it all and maybe build some more terrain as well. Have way too many projects on the go at the moment.

The training scenarios are a great place to start, then we found it good to play mini-geddon.
Aircraft are worth avoiding till much later.
We also found it good to keep all lists the same and remove special rules: we played space marines without They Shall Know No Fear.
We started playing identical lists with tactical marines and land raiders.
Added land speeders and the scout rule.
Introduced the infiltrate rules and space marine scouts.
Then added war engine rules and warhound titans.
After they were playing mini well, we played 3k and brought in planes.
Then brought in the army rules and other forces.
We found space marines were actually hard for new players, (most just wanted to kill things and struggled with the intricacies of positioned movements and prepping assaults; space marines can win through speed without killing much of there opponent.) - this may be up for debate, but ATML seem a better starting list. Due to fearless and reinforced armour, thousand sons are also very forgiving. - good luck, and keep up the training! More players keep the game alive. :)

Guard in minigeddon are a great intro. A warhound, some artillery, some mech infantry. Very straightforward to play
