Post subject:  What happened to some of the older models?

Hi everyone,

I've got a question for anyone who might know. I've been looking through the lists for netEA and I've seen that there are some missing models from a few of the ranges that are not represented in the game.

For instance, there is no Capitol Imperialis for any of the Imperial Guard lists I can find. Eldar have no Deathstalker Prism Cannons, Doomweavers, or Warp Hunters.

There are no rules I can find for Magnus the Red, Angron, Fulgrim, or Mortarion for the forces of Chaos.

I also have not been able to find an Ork list wth Bubble Chukka Speedsta's, Traktor Kannons, Wierdboy Battle Towers, Tinbots, or any of the Mekboy Speedstas. And I see no lists with Mega Gargants in them.

Why are so many models missing from the NetEA game?

:sos :sos :sos

Mega Gargants are available in the Gargant big mob list! :-)

YAY! I am glad to hear at least one of them is still available. But why are the others absent?

Abstraction.... All of the ork special weapons can be represented by gunwagons with soopaguns or super zzap guns, the capitol imperialis is pretty rare but does make a neat warlord titan proxy or a leviathan if using the cadian list

Prism cannons became fire prisms, doomweavers are night spinners now, warp hunters are in the yme-loc list....

Thank you Kyussinchains.

Abstraction isn't something I'm a fan of but I do understand it makes a person not have to look up tons of rules for each model. So that is a good thing. Hopefully someone can come up with some real rules for the Capitol Imperialis as they have rules for Macharius tanks and the Ordinatus.

Now I'm hoping they didn't abstract the Daemon Primarchs. That just isn't right if they did. Daemon Princes like Space Marine Captains that might have turned to Chaos I can understand, but Primarchs should be represented as individuals.

The Primarchs bit had more to do with that there were not any remade models in the 3rd and 4th editions (hell there was almost not even any chaos in 4th) AND that in the fluff of that timeframe the primarchs were overwhelmingly not actively involved for the most part. If GW had continued support I'd suspect there would have been some nods to them eventually but as we know, that didn't really happen.

But since then no one has added the Primarch's to any of the Chaos lists that are fan made? Do people really hate the models that much ?

the primarch minis can be used as 'count-as'/proxy demon princes or greater demons (i use angron as a bloodthirster). Nothing would stop you using them with special house rules in narrative scenarios if it was agreed in advance, i've used angron as Angron with special primarch rules at a Seige of Terra mega battle, for example.

EA generally does not have 'unique' named entities represented as units. For example, there is no Marneus Calgar in a list. You are free to make or find a model that looks like him, but rules wise he's still just a marine supreme commander, unless you have special house rules for friendly games.

Same here, I use Mortarion as a winged Daemon Prince, or very occasionally as a Great Unclean One.

The EA rulebook opens with the following quote:

"Wars are not won by heroes, they are won by firepower and force, and the application of strategy and tactics" - Commissar Yarrick

I think that sets the tone well, EA is a game about army scale battles not the minutae of which hero has which special ability....

yeah remember RZ, their inclusion is about scenario play, not use in generic lists. (generic as in not caring what scenario they're used in). For instance, Apoc and I have been working, at a glacial pace mind you, on some EA campaign books for the 1st war of Armageddon where Angron and some very special GK characters play a central narrative roll. The scenarios there make sense to have them as specific units/characters/formations/whatever for use. They're something that would be added to an existing list for that battle, not part of a list itself.

Epic orks are a bit hard done by mainly due to GW's reboot of their fluff between versions resulting in them losing a lot of the crazier stuff you mention and all the named tank/wagon variants in the transition to Epic 40k. Other armies seem to have ultimately retained more variety (although often through variant lists). Interestingly the NetEA squat army lists includes everything from the original 2nd ed "warlords" army book. But because of the GW reboot the orks have lost a lot of their interestingly weird units from that same army book - like pulsa rockits, bubble chukkas, magna cannons, weirdboy towers, shok attack guns. I guess most people prefer the newer style of orks. Not sure anyone's attempted a 2nd edition style ork variant list.

well part of it is also theme. EVERYTHING (and I do mean that) is a one of a kind custom (or should that be kustom? ;) ) creation therefore breaking everything down into super specific almost assembly line type units and formations is kinda off from that perspective. That may or may not be your cup of tea but that's largely the reasoning by JJ.

Yeah, some of it is just a case of EA being a less detailed game when it comes down to the unit level.

true but e.g. steel legion get to keep their longstanding 3 flavours of artillery but orks say goodbye to their pulsa rocket. The reason is more to do with theme than abstraction
