So according to Special Rule 1.7.5 and the FAQ on disembarking from transports: Quote: Q: When disembarking, are transported units placed completely within 5cm of the transport unit or just so one part of the transported unit is within 5cm of the transport unit. A: You can play it either way, just bring it up in the five minute warm up. How do you play it? |

Locally, wholly within as strip bases get an advantage otherwise. |

I did #3 but with the caveat that because my local group does (well did before I move) base everything and I do mean EVERYTHING and measured base to base for range, any part of base was IN or touching for covers or effect and templates, etc that it felt like it was evened out (as in any range boost was equally nerfing for ability to get shot up or bombarded). I would always do whatever a TO said (in fact i'd specifically ask prior if they didn't have that spelt out). One of the problems with WITHIN was that not all base sizes are created equal. |

#2. Some of the dropships I play with are tiny (1st ed Thunderhawks...) , and it's hard to fit their passengers in a 5cm radius circle. |

I play the first option, but have some of my infantry on 33mm round bases. It gets hard to cram them wholly within range in some situations. Ten infantry bases out of a gorgon for example. Plague towers are another one. That old thunderhawk model is another good example too STM. |

It all becomes fun when the long thin bases are employed. This can then see a unit disembarking within 5 cm, but effectively gaining another 3+cm. This said we had even more fun when the whole proxy issue kicked off, as we have seen Thunderhawks ranging in size from the very original ones (about the size of a square 10p) to custom builds taht had a base larger than that of a warlord, and of course this in turn begged the question of if it was from any point or the centre of the transport. It certainly should be in the 5cm warm up, ---- especially if you see that their proxy is the size of the death star... I would interpret the rule to mean as near as damn it, so would assume its towards the wholey within - this in turn really helps differentiate the war engines (barging) transport to the non barging. |

At EpicUK tournaments it is played as option 2 as that is closest to the rulebook text |

My issues with option one are that 'wholly' within appears nowhere in the rules text, and (as others have mentioned) that there are a number of cases like Plague Towers, Orkeosauruses etc. where it's not physically possible to disembark everyone wholly within 5cm. Plus option 2 is more consistent with the rest of the game as it means you're disembarking in coherency. |

Though we are also playing under time constraints which tends to preclude excessive measuring. IMO This is a case of observing the spirit of the rules. So I suggest we tend to play "mostly" within, i.e. keeping most of the base inside 5cm. Consequently all transported units will be included in an assault except under exceptional circumstances. |

We play "as close as you can get it" for the old tiny models where it's not physically possible to get everything within 5cm. Disembarking is considered a move here (you can overwatch after it occurs), and when moving you have to place wholly within. Quote: Units move a distance in centimetres up to the Speed value shown on their datasheet

You can move a unit up to its Speed value", i.e. no part of a stand can move more than its Speed value. In other words you move like this: [STAND]|--- 15cm ---[STAND]| Not like this: [STAND]|--- 15cm ---|[STAND] |

Ah, so you're treating it as a separate 5cm move from the vehicle? Wouldn't that mean that the infantry count as having moved twice during that move? |
