Hi everyone, I can't find the information on this anywhere (I think I may be some kind of imbecile), so could someone answer a question please?
Is the free transport Rhino of Tactical and Devastator detachments classed as part of their formation after they disembark? Or are they classed as their own separate detachment?
Thanks in advance!
Alan.

In E:A the Rhinos (and all other 'formation transport' are part of the formation. So Devastators with Rhinos start the game as a 6x unit formation. If they arrive by Drop Pod they are only 4x unit strong.
WE transport in a different formation can sometimes carry units from different formations (e.g. The ThunderHawk WE air-transport), but do not normally count as part of the infantry's formation except during an assault.

Cheers Ginger, that sounds like it could be potentially restrictive for the formation unless you're willing to destroy the transports by moving them out of formation?

Umm, I am not quite sure what you mean by that. Could you explain further.

Just to be clear, transported units do not get their own move after they disembark. I can see why you might think the rhinos are holding the formation back if you misunderstood this.

To amplify Kyrt's response, read through section 1.7.5 on integral transport. Paraphrased it says that a formation gets up to three moves per activation (single, double, or triple - 'march'). At the start of a move, the transport (Rhinos) can embark troops by moving over them. At the end of a move, the transport can disembark troops it is carrying up to 5cm from the vehicle. So a formation could declare that it intends to double, and have the transports pick up units at the start of the first move, disembarking them at the end of the second move. A marine formation using Rhinos would travel ~60-65cm by doing this, while on foot the formation would only move 30cms.

Might be wrong here, but i am guessing Valis talking about entering / moving through terrain - esp. buildings?
If so, 'fraid the transports either have to move through or take the dangerous terrain tests. As the guys have said, they remain one formation.
Its especially annoying that you sometimes have to use your first move to get the infantry back into the transports from cover (even if its only 5cm) as the rhinos cant drive in to "hoover" them up.
Therefore generally marines just run around holding on to their rhinos as if they are in a shopping mall competition to win a humvee. (Rhinos count as cover and marines don't benefit from the extra cover anyway).

Thanks chaps, I think you have explained everything (although I have many questions on other things, I won't bombard you with them all at once!)
Thanks again!
Alan.

Blip, I'm sure you're referring to cover saves not benefiting only, right. You still get the -1 to hit with hugging the AVs. Also don't discount adding an extra 6 BM to break on a tac formation. Pretty good for being free.

Sorry, yes, i meant extra cover *save* - ie. they are 4+ already. And the rhinos count as bing *in* cover for -1 to hit.
