In a recent game we had a bit of chat with regards to units that are being assulted and are in transports.
In that case the ever pleasant Orkyosarus.
The question was can the Orkyosarus move 5cm (counter charge) and then the onboard orks get out 5cm (either as 1 their counter charge or 2 their move for getting out a vehicle).
As you can imagine this greatly effects how close one wants to get to the nasty close combat orks.

Thanks for your thoughts as always.

Yup, they can. The rule on Disembarking is that it occurs after a move, and countercharging is "a move".

In a similar vein, Consolidation, Withdrawal, air-transport approach and Planetfalling are also "moves", so units can embark or disembark as part of them.

Note, this is also why units cannot disembark (or 'pop up') to support friends because 'supporting' does not also have some form of movement.

Hang on. You can overwatch after something moves or after a disembark. But you can't overwatch and kill a t-hawk before the marines disembark. So flying isn't a move. Same with planet fall

Afaik this is correct. It annoys me but landing does not count as a move.

Effectively you can OW before or after ground transport disembarks, but you can only OW after Air-transport / planetfalling troops have disembarked. The reasoning is that having Deathstrikes on OW to deter marines was considered a bit gamey . . . :)

See the FAQ on OW in the Tournament pack

That was back when they had "No LOS" instead of "Indirect Fire".

True, though Shadowswords and other TK / MW weapons can be just as devastating on OW against air-transports . . . :)
