Post subject:  EA Company and detachment cards?

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone has made up company and detachment cards for EA?

When I was playing the other day I realised how much I missed having them - a handy reference which could also have all the various weapon stats easily available too. Maybe I just still love SM2 at heart 8)

Has this already been done?

thanks!

Hey it's that time of the month again! ;D [just playfully poking fun]

Actually AFAIK, no, no one actually has. This is largely due to the nature of EA lists would require so many different ones for every permutation of formation (let alone the completely disparate upgrade/support options in each list) that it as a methodology would fall over. You have to remember EA, unlike 2nd edition, doesn't have a faction based list system therefore there's no "marine list" to build from. For instance: Space Wolves, Codex (aka Ultramarines), and Hawk Lords have such radically differing list structure from each other as to be nothing alike (other than Astartes).

Oh? I did a search but couldn't see this topic broached before.

Thats a fair point for those specialised forces, but I would have thought that Astartes, IG etc which are relatively straightforward might have been done. No matter.

I might find my old SM2 cards, scan them in for the silhouettes and knock something up on Paintshop for my own forces.

Well to be fair it generally gets brought up inside another thread so no worries ;D

But that's kinda my point. There's nothing 'straight forward" for any of them. For instance a Leman Russ tank company in SL has 10 Leman Russ tanks with free option for a Vanguisher upgrade. Tank Legion has 10 Leman Russ Tanks of any common type; 2 may be upgraded to "rare" (where "common" and "rare" are uniquely defined to that list).

Or a Guard Infantry company (that's as vanilla as they come :) ). SL gets 12 stands + 1 Commander. Barran gets 1 commander and 9 stands.

Don't even get me started with DKoK or Cadians :D

Cool! Be sure to show them off! Don't take what I said above as discouraging you to do it. It's just that it's only reasonable for fans, generally those that play the list in question, to probably produce them for limited personal use (I mean, do you REALLLLLLY want to be trolling the SL list for changes? :) )

cheers!

I have wondered this too. I know it would be a ton of work but surely you could tie it into the Army Forge (which is an excellent tool) Once you select your units and upgrades, it could do the back ground set up to give you a spec sheet for the army you selected? That way it wouldn't be set company cards.

Now Unit Cards are FAR FAR FAR less work! After all, the things that are different and somewhat open to modification generally are formation cost, size, and upgrades. Units themselves are pretty stable though admittedly there are some units with weapon swaps (e.g. IH Devestators), that's a distinct minority of cases.

Good point - that looks awesome Rastaman

I'll have to ponder this a bit more.
Still think there is a hybrid solution for commonly used units though

Probably. There are a lot of niche lists that you wouldn't have to cover.

This was done a long time ago I still have some that i printed off , I don't think they are available anymore.

I'll try to find them and see if one of the more technically minded players in our group can do anything with them.

I think there was core choice. support and upgrade cards.

Thats is very nice. As I understand it, thats not very difficult to put together once the databases are established, but its still beyond my abilities also

There were cards kicking about for the codex space marine, steel legion and ghazkhul thrakas warband lists.

They were really cool too, although I doubt they had been updated from the original source book. I saw them not even six months ago. But the website that host them is kaput.

There was definitely a site with cards for E:A formations. They even had feral orks! I do not have the link though. :(
