Next question

Is it correct that when shooting an MW or TK at a mixed formations (e.g. with INF and WE) the shot will hit the nearest unit. Therefore e.g. if there are INF in front of a WE it will hit the INF?

Examples might be overwatch deathstrikes vs thunderhawk air assault or shadowswords firing at gorgons with disembarked infantry in front.

Thanks!

also remember you can choose to shoot at targets in cover or targets out of cover which affects what may be hit, for example in a mixed formation of infantry and AV, the infantry may be touching the AV for cover, so to target the vehicles specifically with MW you shoot out of cover, then your shots hit the vehicles (or nearest out of cover units which may be a stand of infantry...) it's also worth remembering that in or out of cover is determined by weapon type in a formation, so if you have multiple MW weapons then they must ALL shoot at in cover or out of cover, same with AP or AT

thanks for quick replies - I knew about the "in vs out" of cover targetting trick

but someone else said exactly what Steve54 said. I just couldn't find the rule in the book. Please can you tell me where?

Thanks!

ok found it.. it's in the WE rules - it's not specific to MW or TK as that's what I had assumed and couldn't find it in the rules for MW and TK.

Thanks!

I was a bit disappointed when I learned that I couldn't target the Valkyries behind my friend's stormtroopers my MW shots. I could picture them jumping in front of the skimmers they just disembarked from, taking a bullet (or melta blast) in slow motion like in a cheesy action movie.

you could if he (sensibly) put the stormtroopers into BTB contact with them... the stormtroopers would be in cover while the valks would not....

Following on from what Kyussinchains said, if he didn't place the closer infantry in contact with the Valkyries - so that they could be valid targets to take the MW attacks - then you'd be able to shoot them easier in generally. Win-win.

It's not clear to me what extent you can split fire when firing on a unit containing WE and non-WE. Which is right:
a) you cannot split fire so all firing units must fire either at WEs or non-WEs
b) you can split fire but all shots of the same type (AT/AP/MW) must be at one or other
c) you can split fire freely

thanks!

A related question. What order do you resolve shots with the Lance special rule?

E.g.: A Dark Eldar Ravager has 2xAT5 Lance and 1xAT5 shots and it fires upon a Titan with Void Shields.

As the attacker I would want the Lance hits to go on the hull to ignore the Reinforced Armour and the regular shot to be used to knock down the Void Shield rather than the other way round.

What order do we resolve or assign the Lance hits?

Hi Scutarii,

Hits are assigned and resolved in 'waves', so to speak. Regular AT, then MW, then TK.

I'm not 100% certain whether Lance would be before or after MW, but you should definitely assign the lance hit after your regular one in your example.

Cheers
Reedar

There are only two waves of hits, as far as I'm aware - AP/AT followed by MW/TK. AT Lance hits are just hits as far as that's concerned, so they're resolved simultaneously with the non-Lance AT hits. :(

Right, but then let's say the titan has 1 void shield and I get 1 AT hit and 1 Lance hit.

Does the titan get to reroll a failed armour save or not?
