| Post subject: | Preferred Base Size & Shape? |
Hey all. I am about to come into posession of some great resin bases from Thingaz, which I am going to use for Grey Knights. I am tempted by the plain plastic bases from Troublemaker Games for my forthcoming Space Wolves. All of these are on round bases. I was wondering what the overall preference was aesthetically and practically on this forum for E:A. I find the round bases so pleasing to the eye compared with the single strip official ones, even for orderly factions like space marines. |

Hi! While for my own collection I am a "traditionalist" as far as the bases I favor, I have never had an objection with how different people wish to base theirs. I do find the round ones rather attractive though. So at least for me there is no aesthetic barrier to them. Practically? I usually work my way around them but we'll see what people with more experience with this rule-set think. Primarch |

For my orks, guard and marines, I use circular bases for infantry and rectangular for vehicles. I base everything to give a consistent point to measure from, and to protect the minis, and I like the look of infantry on round bases. I am also going to use slightly larger bases than normal for vehicles to get a better balance of scale since the vehicles are all undersized compared to the infantry. My other factions I may or may not change things. If I ever get to them. |

Ha ha, yes that huge lead mountain we all have! I was initially sceptical of round bases, but these new ones that have the right slots for 6mm infantry to fit into look really good! |

I make my own bases. I use an industrial strength punch to make holes in a 1/32 thick 1" circle for infantry, then put a bottom of flexible steel as support (thanks to Litko). |

I have used so far mainly rectangular bases because for me it is easier to paint. With the circular bases...how do you paint the model in the middle? For the "special" units (characters, heavy weapons...) the circular bases work better since you can give them a more "fluid" look (not the static artificial look of the rectangular ones). |

Australia seems to like the use of the Flames of War bases for vehicles Small for rhinos, chimera etc, medium for the Land Raiders, Baneblades etc. We also seem to see a good mix of the traditional square, rectangle and FoW bases for infantry |
