Post subject:  What are the best currently available Epic Buildings?

Hello all!

I was despondent a few years ago, as the range of 6mm SF terrain was not as good as it is now. I've seen a couple of kickstarters come and go for terrain and I can see some good looking MDF options become available more recently, however.

^These look great and will become available later this year - I think these are the best looking option for simple, effective buildings that look the part.

^I really like the look of these, but would love to hear anyones' opinion here about them if they have experience of the seller.

^Likewise these ones

^Obviously the old plastics are beautiful, but I'm not paying £20 a shot for what usually amounts to one and a half low, small ruins.

These are options I've seen for what I think of as "typical" Imperial looking buildings at a reasonable price. Does anyone have any better thoughts & options?

Hello,

The card stock buildings from Hawk Wargames are nice. Although intended for 10mm they fit in just fine with epic. Get the Ruinscape for a suitably grim dark look. You get 20 buildings some BIG and 24 road tiles to boot.

They are on heavy cardstock and the printing is beautiful with a glossy finish. I don't know if these sets can still be had in the USA but Hawk Wargames sells the sets for 20 GBP.

Hope this helps.

Those plastic ruins regularly (if not often!) come up on here at a far more reasonable price than eBay. Always worth posting when you're ready to buy - you never know what people have lying around! And there's also Battlescene Designs who are making some good stuff in mdf... http://www.freewebstore.org/Battlescene-Designs

Never one to be shy in publicising my own work, you may be interested in seeing this video which shows off some of the recent Battlescene Designs pieces.

The airfield and city road sets look rather good. I was going to ask about roads, as well!

I know the city card stock buildings are good but, just like with Warmaster, I find myself not convinced by the idea of easily nudged/moved/crushed cardboard scenery. :-X

Burn in designs here in USA has some great simple buildings you could add to and the price is right.

I am a fan of the stuff from Angel Barracks. Doesn't have any grand structures like the big stuff, but for smaller compounds its good stuff

Just to throw in a few more item:
Gregsters Laboratory has some interesting resin stuff. Less of a "here's a big square building" and more tech/industrial bits and partially buried underground lairs.
Gamecraft has a whole series of 6mm scenery in moder, high SciFi, and more grim-dark style. They all mix together well.
JR Mimis is back in production so they likely will have the odd item here or there for use

Actually, I would look at Gamecrafts 10mm section too. Particularly for roads. Well happy with the stuff I got. Epic "6mm" - isn't...

+1 for Greg's Lab - the stuff that's about to drop looks really great and is certainly not skyscraper sized which makes a nice change...

IMO, don't be wedded to using only GW look alikes ... http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?LH_PrefL ... m14&_pgn=1 ... http://www.steelcrowngames.com/collecti ... nd-terrain ... http://www.darkrealmminiatures.co.uk/st ... .php?cat=9 ... http://www.moondragons.com/html/1_300_s ... nkers.html ... http://gcmini.mybigcommerce.com/ ... http://www.armorcast.com/sci-fi ... http://www.secondcitygames.co.uk/userim ... cart36.htm ... http://www.brigademodels.co.uk/6mmSF/De ... dings.html ... http://www.brigademodels.co.uk/6mmSF/Ad ... dings.html

Oh and the hawk wargames resin buildings are expensive as hell but cool as crap. They look great in epic battles despite being 10mm considering epic infantry have always been scaled up a bit anyways.

Ha ha, maybe you guys are a bit bored of gothic looking scenery but that's basically 100% what I am looking for!

Thanks for the advice, I'm in no rush so I can wait for the kickstarters to put things up for general sale, which is good. I'm not sure how much I should go for roads or if I should just start with some ruins / outposts first. I have plenty of hills, forest templates and trees, along with some rivers, because I have been investing a lot in Warmaster terrain and they are basically compatible.

I am ... that is why I suggested other opinions ... Remember on alien worlds they probably won't have GW-esque Gothic type structures ... I'm mean, at least that is what the aliens I talk to says ... And based on my former career, when I see battles being fought in very much built up terrain, like hugh towns dominated by Gothic structures ... it makes me think someone in command didn't do his histroy homework ... That being said, sometimes you can't avoid MOUT/City fighting ... But I do, unless there are no other options ... But as always ... do what works for you ... not me ... 8)

The troublemaker games / exodus wars buildings are pretty neat, I am currently making some up for EpicUK and am planning to use magister militum 50mm and 60mm square bases to make bases and roofs

RichardL and Consul Avenging Angel have already used them to make up some excellent scenery for EUK with wildly different results, I'm sure there are pics somewhere....
