Hi all, just getting bit by the epic bug again and having dug my collection out I had a real urge to play some games, so where do I start? how many points would you recommend to start with? I have about 4000pts of Space Marines (A little bit of everything but lacking terminators, scouts and thunderhawks) but only 1500pts of Orks (mostly boys, gun wagons and a few stompas) Also anyone able to recommend any starting armies to get to grips with how the game plays out.

Thanks in advance.
Haarken

Hi Haarken, probably not a bad idea to start off w/ Minigeddon which reduces the rules from the full-size game and is very manageable. Take a look here - https://sites.google.com/site/epicarmag ... minigeddon

Are you okay for rules themselves and lists? BTW, where are you based?

Depending upon where you live, the best way would be to fight a few simple battles with someone who knows the rules; Minigeddon is a very usefull set of guide lines for creating such battles. It also helps if you go through the various training scenarios at the end of each section of the rules.

If you have 1500 points of Orks you could also try building a 1500 point Marine army, getting a friend to take one side or the other and fighting a simple battle, prefer without WE or aircraft initially.

Thanks for the quick reply Carlos. That's a great site and looks like it's exactly what I'm looking for. I'll have to give a couple of the armies on there a try, shame that I'm currently lacking terminators and scouts as they seem pretty popular in the sample lists, suppose I could always proxy them whilst I find some suitable miniatures. As for the rules, I've got the files for Epic Armageddon saved from when they were still on the website so I think I'm pretty much sorted for them, unless there have been any major changes to them.

I live up in Durham in the north east. Unfortunately my two best mates who were my gaming buddies have moved away so I'm a little short on opponents, I'm hoping to find a club or I may have to play solo or rope SWMBO in.

@Ginger. Thanks for the advice. Think I'll try and work up a couple of 1000-1500 point lists and run through a few battles.

If you are in Durham, you could always check out the E-UK tournament scene and bring your Marines along to one of the events in Mansfield. Indeed you might even get to York and get a game or two with people there.

Maybe a little bit early for tournaments just yet but I'll certainly keep it in mind. Just noticed that the unit prices on Minigeddon differ to the downloaded files I have, is there an update version of the army lists I should be using?

Haarken, for all I know you're one of us already, but theres 8 of us started a 'north east epic armageddon' group on Facebook, weve had one meet so far which was basically a learning session for the rules, (games of minigeddon then a 2vs 2) and we're doing a day of 3k point games on the Bank Holiday (Monday at the moment, looks like it wont be the full crew due to commitments but maybe four to six)

Starting out, I went for 3k lists. After I built what I wanted for 3k, id move on to a new army while maybe picking up additional stuff for older armies so I can add variations.
