Hi,

Does anyone else have the Tabletop Simulator by Berserk Games? I have things setup to play Net Epic Armageddon online and I want to see how well it works.

I know that Tabletop Simulator is a poor substitute for playing in person and has several drawbacks relative to Exodus Wars, but there aren’t any other tabletop gamers where I live, so I figure it’s worth a shot.

This looks more like a physics engine? I presume if you had the models in the system you would have to move them yourself, calculate hits etc, and remove any casualties?

How do you measure distances?

I am in a similar situation to you, no players for miles around. A few guys I use to play on a regular basis have moved due to work so we only get occasional games.

Have you guys tried out the tabletop simulator that one of the members here is developing for epic?

It is a physics engine, but it has the features you would want to simulate tabletop wargaming. So, yes you have to move the pieces with the mouse, track casualties, roll dice, place blast markers, etc. yourself. But you can do so quickly because of the functionality of the program. I am putting up a couple of screenshots.

I am using the hexgrid instead of freeform because I think it is a little faster. The hexes can be treated as being 2.5cm and they can hold one model. So, for moves and ranges of 15cm or less, you can count out 6 hexes. Larger distances can be measured by just holding the tab key. The first picture shows an early setup, the next time, I figured out how to get things setup much faster.

I had been considering using zombocom's simulator, but it looked like there were some issues and enthusiasm was waning. I haven't tried zombocom's program, so maybe the people who tried it can give me some feedback about how hard it is make armies and maps and use the software. In Tabletop Simulator, it takes about 1 hour to get the models for an army uploaded, about 45 minutes to construct a large map, and about 45 minutes to assemble armies and do miscellaneous setup. The models and map (or the whole setup) can then be reused. The graphics could actually be much nicer than what is in the screenshot; the screenshot just shows a low quality map I threw together and the default models for units. In any case, I would be interested in an update on zombocom's program and if he plans to continue developing it.

Looks interesting, as an alternative to Vassal.
Are those snack bowls on the table for authenticity? :D

Hey there!

Thought I'd revive this, as there have been some recent development on this.

Me and another chap have been converting the armies that were available for 40k to Epic, and the units that weren't available I ported them from DoW.

Right now we have available:

Space Marines (Missing some Characters)
Imperial Guard (Missing Thunrderbolt and Deathstrike)
Adeptus Mechanicus (Missing Aircraft)
Titan Legions (Missing Aircraft)
Knights (Only knights are in, other units will eventually be done)
Eldar (Complete)
Tyranids (Complete)
Chaos (Complete)
Orks (Gargants and Stompas ared done but need to be uploaded)

So I can get it on Steam? Never used the workshop...

Well, you need Tabletop Simulator, and then you need to subscribe to the desired workshops on Steam, that's how TTS works, through the Steam workshop. Tabletop itself, is on sale (50% off) quite often.

I'll be working on Warmaster armies next.

Blimey and that is super impressive!

My ears perked up when you said you were interested in Warmaster as well. Unfortunately there is no source like Dawn of War for models, apart from I guess the Mark of Chaos games?

Post subject:  Re: Tabletop Simulator

There is one person that is ripping the models from MoC and there is also a Warhammer mod for Medieval Total War (though i don't know if those can be used). And then Warhammer Total War proper is coming out soon.

Anyway, I already made the High Elves Army to test the feasibility:

The problem with Mark of Chaos is that there are no mods available, and the game itself has limited units, so, for now, there are some units missing, like the High Elf Chariot and the Empire Steam Tank. The original poster of the fantasy armies is working on taking out all the units available from MoC, then he plans on making the rest. Other than that, there is always the possibility that some talented git will model them!

One other great thing that I've found, is that model available on the Thingverse can also be imported into TTS!

Oh wow, this is exciting! I think that Total War: Warhammer looks like it will have pretty much every unit you could think of for the available factions so that's good.

In case anyone is interested, I'v uploaded the Chaos Army for Warmaster and also a counter pack for Epic.

I used the counters from the Net Epic Armageddon Site. I was planning to get in contact with whomever made those to ask for permission, however, I can't find any contact info. Anyone care to point me in the right direction?
