Hi chaps. I've had a mad idea for a big game and wondered whether anyone had already done something similar. The idea is to put together a sea-borne invasion (inspired by the D-Day landings and a couple of the Gaunt's stories). I would like to create two linked games. Firstly, the attackers would have to capture and hold an inland bridge (or complex of bridges) along the only route taken by the defender's reserves, coming to reinforce the beaches. Second, a long, heavily defended beach hit by some form of sea-borne invasion. Both games could be physically linked or played entirely separately (but with the result of the first determining the speed and size of reinforcement for the defender). Lots of questions about which races to use, the balance of forces, which models to use for defences / 'landing craft' etc. (Thoughts of a bizarre flotilla of various Orkish ships supporting a massed landing in 'junkaboats'?) I wondered whether anyone has done someting like this ? The challenge is to retain a flavour of D-Day while still including futuristic elements. Cheers, Phil |

There was a massive display (not sure if it was actually played, was from some sort of convention or event) a couple of years ago with an ork beach assault. Vast numbers of converted and scratchbuilt landing craft. I think Apoc's thinking of the ORK-O-NOWA game held at the British Forces Wargames Show (ACTION 2001) held at a British army camp in Germany and run by Keith Wilson. It was played on an 18ft by 6ft table with 50 scratch built ships including an aircraft carrier and a battleship. Information attained from EPIC 40,000 mag issue 8 pages 16 and 17. |

It might well have been that, but i'm sure it has been around more recently? maybe the same set up was re-done elsewhere with the same models? Photos were posted to taccoms since i've been a member. L4 might know. |

I do remember pics of ORK-O-NAWA ! And a D-Day time invasion using Epic and other models ... But cna't remember where ?  Now one thing I'd recomend, if you have not already. Get a hold of a good board wargame about D-Day. It will give you a good idea about forces. Races, unit types, etc., etc. ... And by using the SEARCH feature here, I found pics of the Game mentioned. I forgot about that post ! Nice find Apoco ! Interesting little back story, TAS is a RAN Officer and I'm a [former] USA Infantry Officer trained in, among other missions, Amphib Warfare ... So with our comments on that post, we are about as close to "experts" are you are going to find on the subject !  LOL !!!!!

Phil ORK-O-NOWA was definatly 6mm as it was shown in the epic magazine on the page stated in my previous post, their may have been a 40k scale game done elsewhere but i could not say.  Anyway i look forward to seeing what you come up with. |
