Post subject:  Taxi down! Troops jump out!

Hi there!

There are some questions regarding transports came up during some discussion about Epic.

When tranport units are destroyed, the troops carried inside takes a hit similar to the one that blows up the taxi. (normal, MW, TK)
Additionally the troops gain a 6+ Cover Save if there aren't any better to use.

This is clear. But we couldn't find information about where exactly the surviving troops appear. Since there is no mention of disembark move, they probably appear at the same location of the destroyed transport. (At least we played it that way. )
Was it right?

So yeah thats about shooting from kilometers. But what happens in close combats, firefights? And things getting really matter now! In Engagement:
1., Can the troops jumping out of destroyed transport make their attacks?
2., Can the troops jumping out of destroyed transport from FIRST STRIKE, make their attacks?
3., According to the way we play it, the troops jumps out at the same location of their destroyed transport. If that happens in CC, does the troops enter to CC aswell???
4., Troops receive the same hit as the one destroyed their taxi. If that was a CC hit, can they still use the 6+ Cover Save against it?

Agreed that as they are *not* disembarking, they appear where the vehicle was destroyed.

1. The transported troops can attack after the vehicle is destroyed by OW fire, or in the assault phase after the vehicle was destroyed by CC or FF. Usually they may *not* fight in the assault phase that the vehicle was destroyed unless it was destroyed by First strike (see below).
(Note, some vehicles allow the troops inside to take part in the assault using their FF)

2. Yes.
Quote:
Weapons with the first strike ability attack first in an assault. Resolve the attack and inflict damage for the weapon before any enemy units make their attacks. This may result in some enemy units being destroyed before they can attack.
So, in the case of transported troops it may result in those troops being available in the 2nd "normal" round of combat.

3. The troops that fall out of the vehicles fight in CC if they are in B-B, else they will use FF.

4. The rules regarding destroyed vehicles applies irrespective of how and when that happens. So the troops still need to test after the vehicle is destroyed by a Dangerous Terrain test, or a hit from Assault or enemy shooting (and may still use an "invulnerable save" against MW or TK hits)

Just another one!

In the 3rd case, when a transport is destroyed in CC by a Terminator unit's normal hit -and failed his save -the guys inside jump into BTB -after a succesful save- to be hit with the MW attack (MW hits allocated in later than the normal ones)?

No, I do not think so.

The MW hits are applied in a second hit allocation round after normal hits have been resolved, but this is not a different round of combat like the 'First strike' round. The reason for separating out the allocation of MW hits is a game mechanic to ensure that the MW hits are not 'lost'.

Consequently I believe that the troops only appear after the MW hits have been applied.
