I played my first game in ages last night and something came up we could not find any rules about. What happens if an imperial guard artillery company of a mix of basilisks and manticores fires at a unit? We thought you would add all the BP's together, but what about the distrupt and slow fireing of the manticores? Should the basilisks and manticores both fired at the same unit but separately?

Mixed barrages lose any special abilities like Ignore Cover and Disrupt. There is a rule (or FAQ clarification) specifying this, and I am sure someone will give you the precise reference. Slow fire still applies, IF you choose to fire the Manticores. Remember that you do not have to fire with all the models in a formation. The reason to include a Manticore in a Basilisk battery would be the barrage table. 8 or 9 Barrage points have the same performance, whereas 10 adds another Blast Marker. Therefore, 8 Basilisks and 1 Manticore would perform an output of 10-8-10 BP, actually outperforming 9 Basilisks (notwithstanding blast markers).

you add all BP together from a unit and fire a single barrage

special rules like disrupt or ignore cover or macro ONLY apply if every unit in the formation has the ability, you can choose to not fire some units, so if you had a mixed artillery company with 3 manticores and 6 basilisks, you could fire a 12BP barrage with no special rules, or if you wanted the disrupt hits, you could fire ONLY the manticores and have a 6BP barrage with disrupt

Here is the appropriate FAQ (under Disrupt in the NetEA Tournament Pack)

Q:If an Imperial Guard Artillery Co. contains Basilisks and Manticores (with the Disrupt ability) does a barrage fired from this formation use the Disrupt rules since not all of the units in it have the Disrupt ability?

A:Special Weapon abilities are only used if all the units firing have them. So if you wanted to use the Disrupt ability in this case you could only fire with the Manticores. A barrage that used both types of units would not have the Disrupt ability.

from the rulebook:

from the specialist units and weapons section, paragraph 3:

"Sometimes situations will occur where some units have a special ability and others do not, raising the question of whether the ability may be used. For example, some units in a formation may be able to fire a barrage that ignores cover or has the macro-weapon effect, while other weapons taking part in the barrage do not. If such a situation occurs in a battle then you may only use the ability if all of the units taking part can use it – so the barrage would only ignore cover or count as a macro-weapon if all of the units participating in the barrage had these abilities."

Thanks for that guys, but would the manticores lose their slow firing rule as its a special ability? Seems stupid but reading the rules given above sounds like they would as all the unit would not be slow firing so it can not be used (not that u would want to use it as its a disadvatage)?

slow firing applies as normal as it's not a weapon effect like macro or disrupt, it merely determines whether the unit can fire or not

Yeah the presence of mix arty in the formation doesn't make them miraculously load the rockets faster :D (though that'd be cool)
I agree that this is a less than elegant part of EA rules, again. ROF should not be an ability of the weapon but explicit on the weapon itself (another thing EW got right - of course I'm biased :))
